Where is the Changing Room?

R.a.n.t. of month January 2016
I'm on vacation this week so I'm going to be short and sweet. Well, short anyway. If I were ranting about candy, I'd say sweet. But digress.

This weekend I needed to run to the store for something I needed. It was then that I started to realize something. There have been a few stores I've shopped in, and when I needed to try something on, I couldn't find a dressing room. Not in the men's department anyway.

No, it's usually in the women's department. And not just the women's department, but the intimates. In my opinion, there is nothing stranger than a single guy who suddenly has to start walking around in the intimates department. I can't imagine it would be any less uncomfortable for a women to be shopping for intimates and then suddenly see a strange single guy walking around. It just feels odd.

Additional questions:
Would this be awkward for you?
What's the most bizarre thing you've had to deal with in a store?
Have you ever gone on holiday and left something important at home?

  1. Ha! I never paid attention because I'm a woman, but a changing room at my local Wal-Mart is in the women's section. I never bothered to see if there was another closer to the men's area.

    1. That's actually where I was. And no, there isn't one closer to the men's department.

  2. Hi Jeffrey - sometimes I can't be bothered to wait or try something on - so I buy, take home and then see ... but as I too am a woman I wouldn't worry too much. Though I was surprised when the London stores started communal changing rooms - back in the days ... but they were women only! Cheers Hilary

    1. I have to admit, I've done this also. That is buying something now and trying it on at home. Usually because I don't feel like searching for the dressing room.

  3. Why don't they place the men's dressing room near the men's department, anyway?
    Enjoy your vacation.

    1. There is a Target that does this, but then again the women's department is also right there.

  4. I went on holiday and forgot to take my husband and children, but that was a long time ago, and I'm just kidding. haha I don't go shopping. I shop online. If the clothes don't fit, then I give them away. I don't know the most bizarre thing I've dealt with in a store. Maybe it has yet to arrive, so I can look forward to it. I haven't been in a store for quite a few years, but they used to have dressing rooms in every department. About fifteen years ago, my daughter who says I'm not funny and I took her boyfriend shopping at The Gap. Stupid place. The dressing rooms were all in two rows, with the doors facing each other. My daughter who says I'm not funny and I sat in a dressing room across from the dressing room with said boyfriend. He put on clothes and then opened the door. We said yes or no--mostly no.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. That would be funny if a person were to forget their spouse and/or children when leaving for a trip. Even worse, coming back from one.
Going shopping with daughter and boyfriend. That must have been interesting.

  5. Never thought about it before, but come to think of it you're right. Odd, I wonder why? My husband and I arrived at the airport for our flight to Reno when he realized he'd left his wallet at home. Thank goodness the flight was delayed or we'd have missed it altogether.

    1. This kind of happened to me when I was in London and wanted to visit Paris. I arrived for my departure but forget my passport in the hotel room. Very embarrassing.

  6. I don't do a lot of shopping, but I can see how the dressing room in the intimates section could be a problem for a single man. I am guessing there is some reason behind this- maybe to make men walk through more sections and possibly by something else? But, I am not sure.

    Hope vacation is fun!

    1. I assumed it had something to do with more women utilizing the fitting rooms. Men will usually pick something out and just buy it. Unless it's a pair of pants, shorts or suit. When it comes to mens shirts, it's a fair bet we know what we are getting by just looking at the size.

  7. That is a very interesting observation! I notice when I shop in stores like Kohl's, you just don't see many men shopping. A lot of times women are the ones in the men's sections. Do women usually buy their men's clothes? My husband buys his own clothes, but he's one of those men who will find one type of pants he likes and buy those for 20 years, just adding new ones when the old ones wear out.

    1. Do women buy men's clothes for them? I'm unsure. I do all my own shopping, but then again I don't have anyone attached to me anyway.

  8. 1) very awkward. 2) forgot my wallet once on a day trip while visiting the in-laws. Had to sponge money off the father in-law because he didn't want to go back to the house thirty seconds after I'd realized it. 3) Went to buy a pair of dress shoes, and had the sales clerk leave me while she was helping me to help another customer.

    1. Wow! 30 seconds? I think sponging off of someone is certainly more embarrassing than trying pants on in the women's department. And yes, I've had to bum off of friends for that reason, and for being broke.
Wow, she left you to help another. Yea, that's just rude.

  9. I never thought about it. Will have to keep on eye out in London to see if it's the same. Enjoy your holiday.
