It's my 10th anniversary on blogger!!!

And since I've been talking about reviving a review feature, I thought it would be apropos to review the eclectic collection of reviews I've written over the past 10 years.

I will be critiquing my own previous writings in three areas. Information, Entertainment & General Interest. For the most part, these are all blog posts that have had little to no attention on my blog, so links to the original posts will be provided. And no; I don't for a minute expect anyone to click and read all the links. However, I do hope each reader will find at least one link that interests them enough to check out and leave a thought. Maybe you want to read the review I rated the highest? Or the one I gave the lowest score to. Perhaps you'd like to see how well I reviewed music CD's or check out an odd 'talk show' type entry I made which included a review. Whatever your reason, perhaps you will look into at least one. I'd consider it a 10th anniversary present.

After each review, I have assigned a "Rant Rating". The lower the score, the more I should rant about how awful the review actually was. And now, without further ado...
Did I say this was an eclectic collection? Hoo Boy!
TV: Commercial Review
Superb Owl 50 Review
02/08/16 R.a.n.t. of month February, 2016
This was more a collection of funny TV commercials featured in the popular televised game, and less an actual review of each commercial. Still, this post featured the one and only appearance of Horace the official Jeffrey Scott blog mascot. Perhaps I should bring him back at some point.
Information: 2/10 (None provided by myself personally).
Entertainment: 4/10 (The Superb Owl joke never gets old).
General Interest: 4/10 (Most of the ads are still relevant today).
Rant Rating - 33%
02/02/14 R.a.n.t. of week 02/02/14
My first collection of choice commercials. Personally, I found these more entertaining than the ones from the Superb Owl 50 review. However, I still didn't really 'review' them per se. I did however give a quick cynical recap of the game, but not much more.
Information: 4/10 (A higher rating since I DID recap the game).
Entertainment: 4/10 (Nothing unique was really added beyond the ads).
General Interest: 5/10 (Slightly higher since I added the game scores).
Rant Rating - 43%
05/18/08 After being told I should watch commercials, I decided to review a block of them. You know, just to see what I was missing. Turns out, I wasn't missing a lot. The article was written rather tongue in cheek, though did try to be honest.
Information: 6/10 (Went into detail describing each commercial).
Entertainment: 2/10 (Think watching commercials is boring)?
General Interest: 6/10 (I think almost everyone hates commercials. So we should all relate).
Rant Rating - 46%
TV: Program Review
The Coffee Klatch - Episode I
02/04/11 - I had an interesting idea for a new blog feature in 2011. A sort of "talk-show" blog post. My hopes was to have interviews, reviews, music, cartoons and general sort of chit chat. In my debut (of only two episodes) I review a few of my favourite TV shows for the week.I've often considered retooling this idea and bringing it back.
Information: 5/10 (I give information about myself and a few shows I watch).
Entertaiment: 6/10 (A cartoon is provided, a music video and a self interview).
General Interest: 5/10 (Not everyone is into what I'm into. Still, I tried).
Rant Rating - 53%
Music: CD Review
CD Review: Thisbe Vos - "Shophistication"
03/27/12 I discovered Thisbe Vos and promptly wrote a review of her (then) new CD. I think my writing style had vastly improved by the time I wrote this. I review more of the songs on a personal level and keep the additional information abridged.
Information: 7/10 (Information about the CD is great, but I don't have links to her social media).
Entertainment: 8/10 (I personally think it's one of my most well written reviews).
General Interest: 7/10 (If you like jazz of any sort, you should like this.
Rant Rating - 73%

CD Review: Jessy J - "Hot Sauce"
02/16/12 Not to be confused with Jessie J, this CD review was an interesting read. Lots of person opinions about the CD, but then again who wouldn't in a review? I highlight my track favourites and give much information on where to find Jessy J, and who have contributed to the album.
Information: 8/10 (Lots of contributing artist information).
Entertainment: 7/10 (If you like jazz CD reviews, I think you'll like this one).
General Interest: 7/10 (A versatile CD and a versatile review).
Rant Rating - 73%
01/22/12 Once upon a time a local radio DJ appreciated my photography enough to invite me to a live recording she was doing for a local cable access program. After the photo shoot and interview was completed, I received a free demo of the CD. So I decided to review it. Upon rereading the review, I was impressed with how well I tried to give the flavour of the CD to all my readers. I also included a few of the photos I took during the photo shoot. I was very proud of this review.
Information: 9/10 (Links to all her social media were included. Along with some background and a link to the photo shoot I did).
Entertainment: 8/10 (An endearing description of the music, if a bit long winded).
General Interest: 8/10 (I think this is a CD everyone can find at least one song to their liking).
Rant Rating - 83%
12/16/11 A year after my first music review, I decided I needed to review the first album from my favourite jazz artist. Is my review somewhat biased? Perhaps, but I highlight the songs, give credit to the songs inspirations and original artists. Still no numeric rating system, though I do describe which I like, and which I feel others may enjoy.
Information: 10/10 (I also give credit to those who perform with her).
Entertainment: 9/10 (The honest review and photos make it worth reading).
General Interest: 8/10 (Not everyone enjoys jazz. But give it a try).
Rant Rating - 90%
CD Revew: Fuse - Debut Album
06/23/10 I consider this my first proper music review. Though I don't give a numerical rating, I do, however, rave about the artists and the music.
Information: 9/10 (Most people, I think, are unfamiliar with all the info provided).
Entertainment: 7/10 (For an older post, I think it's very well written).
General Interest: 6/10 (Who doesn't like music)?
Rant Rating - 73%
05/28/11 This quartet is my favourite electric string group. So, I had a lot of fun re-watching and writing about this DVD. Not only do I let everyone know exactly what I love about the DVD, I try to be fair and give some critical thoughts as well. Certainly a well-rounded review.
Information: 7/10 (Once again identify group members, but leave no social media links).
Entertainment: 8/10 (I think it's entertaining to read both positive and negative points).
General Interest: 7/10 (Concert DVD's are not for everyone, but I think you would like it).
Rant Rating - 73%
12/11/11 This review was on the second episode of a failed 'blog talk show' format I tried to use. Ignoring the rest of the post, you'll find a short couple of paragraphs of a recent game I was playing on my Playstation 3. A nice short review, if you are into this kind of thing.
Information: 3/10 (Basic general information).
Entertainment: 4/10 (Describe how I best like to play the game).
General Interest: 3/10 (I think most people will not be interested).
06/02/08 I called this entry a review, though really it's a fake story based on a funny picture. The story is thankfully, very short. All data has been faked, but that shouldn't surprise you considering it's a fake story.
Information: 1/10 (Hard to say anything is informative if it's make believe).
Entertainment: 5/10 (There is a 50/50 chance you may find this funny).
General Interest: 2/10 (Possibly funny, possibly offensive if someone suffers from elephantiases).
05/13/08 The first of (mercifully) only two picture reviews. Perhaps something more could be done with a fake picture review, though I'm not exactly sure what.
Information: 1/10 (Make fictitious places and people).
Entertainment: 4/10 (There is a 50/50 chance you may find this offensive).
General Interest: 1/10 (Not that funny and the photo is not very clear).
05/22/08 I wrote a lot of weird stuff when I first started blogging. Case in point, my review of a local grocery store. Like most of my early blog posts, it was fairly brief.
Information: 2/10 (I didn't really describe much about the store).
Entertainment: 1/10 (I can't see how anyone would have found this entertaining).
General Interest: 2/10 (If you are local, you might be interested. If not, probably not).
05/16/08 This was the first serious review that started it all. I tried to be informative and brief. I also strived to give readers a small demonstration of what it was like through my description and included photo.
Information: 6/10
Entertainment: 4/10 (If you like restaurant reviews, this might work for you).
General Interest: 5/10 (I think most people like to check out places others have reviewed. Whether they plan to visit it or not).
As some of you are aware (at least those who read my last rant), I'm in the process of uploading 30+ years of journal writing to one localized (private) place online. For the most part, the uploading part has reached its conclusion. Now comes the review process. Yes, I will now be reading each and every entry for the sole purpose of tagging. My next goal is to make sure each entry has at least one tag on it. So in a quick and easy stroke, I can find all entries where I talk about a certain subject. It's a slow process, but it's been kind of neat in a way as I have started the review process.

One thing of note. There is a chunk of time (mostly during my marriage) where I did no journal writing. As a sort of gap-filler, I have turned to my blog and have started to include blog posts. I've been blogging for about 10 years now, so there are move reviews in my future. Ironically, one of the features I attempted while blogging was reviews. At different points in my blogging life, I've attempted review articles. Topics such as weight loss products, photography, music and other miscellaneous things have taken centre stage. I've often wondered if I could go back to that. I think the only thing that has really held me back from that is wondering how qualified I actually am to judge things such as music and/or movies. Who would take me seriously? My photos reviews were mostly jokes. Are my jokes funny enough? Or just inane chatter? Would I, Could I, start a new review set of acticles? And what would I review? Not sure currently, I will have to 'review' my notes. Till then, I shall go back and review my past journal entries. At least that's something I should be an expert on. I did write them after all.Jeffrey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06973104877310669196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4688586956638235216.post-83582143613790589322018-02-13T11:18:00.000-06:002018-02-21T09:09:54.369-06:00Journal OmnibusR.a.n.t. of week 02/11/18

So I've started a new project. Not sure if the correct word is ambitious, but it's interesting none-the-less. I have embarked on bringing all my journals and web entries to one place. You see, I've been journal writing since 1984. Can you believe that? The first eight or nine years, the entries were entirely hand written. A few years ago, I embarked on the task of writing these entries into the computer. A task I concluded, to some degree or another. I tried to keep all misspellings in-tact. Sort of a way to see how my writing has improved over the years (if at all).

Most recently, I've started entering all these previous journal entries to a private journal writing website. It's safe and secure, so I have been having fun entering them and reliving old times. Additionally, I've been groaning at some of the idiotic things I have written or done, and with the new site, adding tags to each entry. Now with just a click of the button, I can check how many entries I wrote about my old friend Patrick, my most recent friend Brandon, my sons Caleb and/or Tristan or even places I've been to such as London or the times I've mentioned Doctor Who. It's really kind of exciting to me.

While creating this Omnibus, I pondered including all of my writes. Certainly my rants are not exactly journal writing. Mostly because I share my rants with the world. But then I got to thinking, I should include my writes. Though I do more writing about people and things I've done in my journal writing, my rants express all things about me. Things I like and don't like. So I ultimately decided they were perfect for my omnibus. But how should I include them? Should I squeeze them in as journal fillers during the different journals of mine? Or make them a completely thing all-together. After much internal debate, I have come to conclusion they will be added to my journal omnibus as a separate thing entirely. Most likely though, I will include various other blog entries. Will the entire Omnibus be made public? Unlikely. However I will make any new r.a.n.t. articles available here. So, that's something.Jeffrey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06973104877310669196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4688586956638235216.post-61445629334625163012017-04-05T12:33:00.000-05:002017-08-09T14:35:52.306-05:00My Gaming A-ZR.a.n.t. for month of April
I know it's been a while since I've posted. To be honest, I've been in kind of a funk.
I feel like my writing is not all that great, and I've not been very motivated to do much writing.
But I miss it, and I wanted to let everyone know I'm still around, just laying low for awhile.
It's possible I will be back. I also want to let everyone who stopped by my last post and left a comment, that I am sorry I never got back to you with a reply. I shall endeavour to get back to everyone, at least by stopping by their blog and saying hi.

What sucks the most for me now, I'm missing a feature I got involved in two years ago; the A-Z posting in April. So I have decided to do at least one post this month, and see where I go from here.

Enough blah, blah. Since I am missing the April A-Z which I love so much, I will include a fun (I hope) A-Z in this post. This is the proposed A-Z I was planning for this year. Perhaps, I will use this next year and expand on it, if indeed, I get back to writing. Once again, thanks for stopping by.

Jeffrey Scott's A-Z favourite games

A is for Angry Birds
Type: Computer
A fun game I love to play to kill time.

B is for Boss Monster
Type: Card Game
My son asked me to get this.
Essentially, you are the boss of a side scrolling video game (and yet it's a card game. Go figure).
Your goal is to make the hardest castle for the other players to battle. Can you make sure they die in your dungeon before you die trying to run theirs?

C is for Carcassonne
Type: Tile Game
The object is to lay down tiles to form the best kingdom possible. Included on each tile is either a city, a road and/or a field. Each tile interconnects with one another. Depending on how you lay down the tiles, you can score more points. Use your "meeple" to indicate which city, road or field is yours. At the end of the game, the person with the most points, wins the game.

D is for Dealers Choice
Type: Card/Board Game
You are the owner of a sketchy car lot. Your goal is to pawn off your crappy cars to potential buyers.
But beware, you may accidentally sell a classic car worth more than you realize. As the game progresses, you also have to shop around at the other car lots. Will you get a deal? Or will you, yourself, get stuck with a lemon?
This is a classic game from the 70's that was always a family favourite. I recently purchased it online to play once again.

E is for Expansions
Type: Various
Expansions is not a game in itself. An expansion is actually an add-on to a previously released game.
Generally for card games, it also can add on to existing board games.
As an example, one of my favourite games, Dominion, is a card game with a base set of cards. The goal is to score the most points by collecting cards with Victory points on them. But to help you acquire those, you can purchase additional money or action cards. Each card help in a unique way. With the expansion, you have a greater set of cards to select from.
Buying an expansion is a great way to enhance a game you love, but is not required to purchase if you are not fond of the game. The core game is playable by itself.

F is for Firefly the Game
Type: Board Game with Miniatures placed on a galactic map.
Based on the Cult Classic TV show. In Firefly, you are the captain of your of ship. There are different game winning goals, can you be the first person to complete the winning goal before other captains? Fly around the 'verse, hire crew, take on odd jobs, and win the game. But keep on your toes and don't let the Reavers capture you.

G is for Gammarauders
Type: Card Game / Board Game
You live in a time after a horrific atomic war. Large creatures have mutated. Fortunately, you have captured one of these creatures and you must battle other bioborg to gain control of the world. Cards included in the game, give your bioborg grafted weapons, which will help insure you can defeat the other mutated monsters. As an older game, this was one of the first games I ever found that broke out of the pure 'board' game format.

H is for Heroclix
Type: Miniature
Heroclix is a game with miniatures of your favourite super heroes. Each minature has a card that tells you how to use it. Each miniature is different, i.e. it has different super powers. Your goal is to fight a rival super hero team. Can your heroes/villains defeat your opponents heroes/villains?
Depending on the version you buy, you can be either DC or Marvel heroes. There are also Star Trek type ship battles available, and a few other interesting versions. This game relies heavily on expansions.

I is for Intellivision
Type: Video Game Console
Back in the time when not everyone owned a video game console, my family owned the Intellivision game console. This was awesome at the time. The graphics were far superior to that of the Atari 2600 and there were even a few games that could TALK!!! Can you believe that? I video game system where you could actually hear it talking to you? One of my favourite games was called 'Space Spartans'. It was like Star Wars. It was simply amazing. As you flew through space fighting wave after wave of tie-fighter type ships, the computer would let you know when your ship was damaged, which feature was damaged and how far repairs were progressing. This was no side-scrolling game. It was simply jaw-dropping. To this day, I would play it if I were to find it.

J is for Jenga
Type: Family Game
I think most people I know have actually played this game at one time or another. The goal is simple. Take a piece from the bottom of this wooden structure, and place it at the top of the structure without making the entire structure fall over. The person who makes the tower fall, loses the game.

K is for Kerplunk
Type: Family Game
This was another of my favourites growing up, though we never owned it. Probably a good reason for that. The game was a cylinder tube with sticks poking through the tube. On top of all the sticks, were a pile of marbles. Each player in turn would remove one of the sticks, releasing more and more of the marbles below. The person who released the most marbles lost the game. AS you can imagine, it could be a very loud game to play at times. Especially when you have five other siblings and a mother and father who simply wanted some quiet.

L is for Love Letter
Type: Gard Game
This is a real quick game. The goal is to end the game with the highest point value card. Each card allows you to do something different. Change cards with another player, discard your lowest point value card, play a card to make you immune from other attacks. The possibilities are endless. The game is fast paced and you can complete a game in under ten minutes. A great filler game to play during a family game night.

M is for Mad Magazine
Type: Board Game
This game is a spoof of Monopoly. As you might imagine, Mad Magazine is played in a ridiculous way. The object of this game is to be the first person to LOSE all your money. That's right. You don't want to win. The player who wins this game, actually loses and the player who loses, actually wins the game. Can you lose all your money before everyone else? Be careful, you might be on the verge of losing all your money, when you are suddenly forced to either exchange money or even change your seat (leaving your money) with another player. Cards and stunts you perform can also help you lose more money.

N is for No Man's Sky
Type: Video Game
This is a new game released last year. It's a space exploration game. The goal is to get to the centre of the universe and explore the galaxy. As a procedurally generated game, each planet you visit is slightly different. From planet to planet the flora and fauna you discover changes. Also, each planet has different minerals you can mine. As you continue to explore, you can enhance your starship, find a better starship and build a home base. It's a great time waster and is essentially a solo game with little to no interaction with other players.

O is for Once Upon a Time
Type: Story Telling / Card
This is a very unique game. The goal of the game is to tell a fairy tale, utilizing the cards you have drawn. Every player has a specific card telling them how the story should end. As you play the game, others can interrupt your story (with specific cards) which will allow them to continue the story in hopes of finishing the story the way they need to. Each player also have specific elements they need to add to the story before they can conclude it. One player may need to make sure a dragon is included in the story, another player may need to make sure a room full of gold is found somewhere in the story, or a wicked step-mother or... well, you get the point.

P is for Pizza Party
Type: Dice
Another quick game. The goal is to completely fill a pizza pie with all the required toppings. The first person to do so, wins. Each die depicts different toppings to put on your selected pizza. To match the toppings on your pizza, you must roll the die. When it matches what you are looking for, you place it on your pizza. Hurry, finish the pizza before your opponent does.

Q is for Qix
Type: Arcade Game
Back in the day, you went to an arcade to play video games. This, along with Tron, was one of my favourites. The object was to surround an energy beam in the centre of the screen. In order to do this, you simply drew lines to make boxes. When the box is filled, you score points. But if the energy beam catches you before you complete the box, you lose a life. Can you completely surround the energy in boxes, or will he catch you before you can finish?

R is for Risk
Type: Board Game
Would you like to play a game? How about world domination? This is quite a safe way to control the world. And no one has to die. At least not in real life. The goal is to place troops in different countries and use those troops to battle other countries. If you can are skilled enough, you can take over other countries without losing the countries you currently hold. If you can do that one simple thing, you will control the world. Of course, your competitors are trying to do the same thing. Who will control the world, will it be you?

S is for Star Trek CCG
Type: Card Game
This is another game that relied heavily on expansion card packs you purchase in the store. The object of the game was to fly around the universe, attempt missions on various planets and score mission points. The first to 100 points wins the game. This game was unique in that you could play with any number of different factions. You could play with any number of different factions: Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg, Ferengi, Bajoran, Cardassian and more. With different 'treaty' cards you could even play with two different factions. You start the game with one outpost and you 'report' ships and crew to that location. When you think you have a decent crew and a decent ship, you can explore the galaxy. Be careful though, different planets and missions require specific player types to complete. To complete, you might need one of many different skills, Computer Skill, Medical, Officer, Science, Security, Astrophysics and many, many more. Truly, the possibilities were endless.

T is for Trivial Pursuit
Type: Board / Trivia
How good are you at trivia? You'll find out in this game. A classic game with many different variations out now. I have a few variants including: Doctor Who, The 80's, Saturday Night Live and Star Wars. Are you as good at trivia as I am? Let's find out.

U is for Utopia
Type: Video Game
A video game that goes with the Intellivision system, this was one of my favourite games. Not only could you play with another person, you could play alone if you were bored, against the computer. Each player must build up their island to the most perfect utopia possible before time runs out. In peace mode, you each tend to your own countries and fear the awful weather patterns that transpire. Or if you want to be evil, you can create PT boats to destroy your opponents fishing boats and place rebels in their country.

V is for Vector TD
Type: Computer Game / Tower Defence
Just another version of a tower defence game. The goal is to set 'towers' which shoot at to eliminate 'creeps' that scroll across your computer board. There are various towers you can place and you can make each tower stronger.

W is for Water Works
Type: Card Game
A classic card game. One of my families favourites. In this game, you are a plumber (naming yourself Mario is optional) and must lay a set of pipes leading from the tap valve to the faucet. Your opponents will try to lay leaking pipes for you to fix. If they do so, you must repair the leak before you can proceed. Can you finish your set of pipes before everyone else?

X is for X-Wing
Type: Miniature
This is actually a game I do not have, but would love to get into it if I knew enough people that would like to play. This is also another game that relies on picking up expansion ships. As you may imagine, the goal of this game is to fly around the map destroying all the other players ships. Every possible ship you can think of can be acquired in this game (each sold separately, of course). This makes the game rather expansion to collect and play. Part of the reason I have not picked this up yet.

Y is for Yahtzee
Type: Dice Game
Yet another game I don't think I really need to explain. You don't really even need to purchase the game as long as you own five dice. The object is to get the best score. Playable with others or solo. You can purchase game sheets or you can find ones online or just simply scribble on your own scratch paper. A fun and easy game for yourself or with a small group of people.

Z is for Zelda
Type: Video Game
Okay, so I'm cheating a little with this one. The official title is the Legend of Zelda. However, most people I know simply call it Zelda, or the Zelda series as there are many games in the Zelda series. Though most people think the lead character is named Zelda, in fact his name is Link. Your goal is to walk the land, collect various objects in your quest to complete the game. Each item helps assist you in completing the game and defeating the boss monsters, and then finally, Gannon. How long will it take you to complete the game?

Which games sounds the most interesting to you?
Do you own any of these games?
I'm afraid I've got some bad news. I've been debating this for awhile and I've been trying to find some way around it. But for the time, I fear I need to go on another blog hiatus. No need to worry about me, I'm fine. There are just several things I need to attend to in the next few months. I'm not sure how long I'll be away, I hope not too long. Most likely, I will return in the next year. I absolutely love writing and blogging, so this decision has not been very easy for me. In truth, I'm completely gutted by it. The duties which I will be preoccupying my time with are of the highest importance to me at this time, and necessary. I hope you, my readers, my writing collogues and my internet friends will understand.Jeffrey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06973104877310669196noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4688586956638235216.post-7485740349797772632016-12-01T10:50:00.000-06:002016-12-01T10:51:28.746-06:00My Hero; Ultra-BoyR.a.n.t. for month of December 2016

As I was growing up, my favourite comic book was Legion of Super Heroes. One of the best heroes was names Ultra-Boy. He had many interesting powers: flight, speed, vision, invulnerability, strength. Kind of like Superman. But what set this character apart from Superman was his inability to use more than one power at a time. Superman was always boring to me because there wasn't much he couldn't do. Ultra-Boy on the other hand, had to be creative, especially if he needed to use two different powers. Imagine a super power juggling act. If he were to discover a bomb about to go off, he could deal with it in several ways. He could grab the bomb, fly off with it into the air, quickly switch to invulnerability as the bomb went off, then switch back to flying so he wouldn't fall back to Earth. Or he could simply pick the bomb up and throw it away with super strength into space.

But I don't have super powers. That's not the way I seem to be like Ultra-Boy lately. Lately, it seems I can only concentrate on one thing at a time. I have many interests, as regular readers are well aware. I'm a writer and photographer who also enjoys learning a second language, blogging and gaming. But I tend to do only one at a time. When I'm into my blogging, I rarely do much writing (yes the two are vastly different). My photography and language skills also tend to fall by the way-side. I don't mean, I try to do more than one thing at one time, I'm pretty much talking about within a set time frame. Let's say, weeks or months. Well, now I've got a new distraction. For the past few months, I've been trying to lose weight. Depression is something I battle with and many many times I turn to comfort food. I've been cutting out almost all forms of junk-food and walking a 5K two to three time a week. I'm proud to say I've been very successful so far. In the span of 5 weeks, I've lost 20 pounds. And yet, I have so much more to go.

So, to my readers I must say this. Please bear with me. I know at times I get behind in visiting my blogging buddies, and bad at commenting, but I'm working on one thing and finding it difficult to manage doing the other things I love. Don't worry, I'll get to it. Like my hero Ultra-Boy, I just need to learn to be more creative. I just need to learn to juggle better. Perhaps my blogging colleague, Arlee could give me a few pointers?

Some questions for discussion.
What super hero can you identify yourself as?
If you could pick one super power, what would it be?
Have you / Do you read comic books? If so, what is your favourite title(s)?
Have you ever felt too lazy to work on a favourite projects? How do you handle this?
Do you do 5k's or half or full marathons?

Usually, I hate when battles are clearly one sided. This battle was another one-sided battle. But for once, I don't mind. You are probably wondering why I don't mind so much. Well, I'll tell you. But first the results of the first round.
Morrissey came out fighting right away. It looked like he was going to run away with it at first, but in the end, the competitor received a vote.
Morrissey votes: Alex, FAE, Debbie & Shady
Michael Anthony Austin votes: Janet
Morrissey leads 4-1

So why is it I'm not that broken hearted about a landslide of a battle? Could it be my friends favourite artist won and I'm happy for her? Again, I'll answer that in a second, but first the second round results.
As expected, a complete run-away.
Morrissey votes: Mary, Crystal, Spacer Guy, Stephen & holli.
Morrissey leads 9-1

You didn't really expect me to reveal the answer to those above questions in this paragraph, did you? OF course not. Because to be honest, it's possible my friends favourite artist lost and I'm happy because, like last post, I'm being facetious and annoying. But am I really that crass?
Third round was more of a battle. Now that's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it.
Morrissey votes: Chrys, Cathy & Robin
Michael Anthony Austin votes: G.B.Miller & Stephanie Faris
Morrissey leads 12-3

Yes, I know. I keep so many things secret. It must be infuriating for even you, the reader. So where was I? Oh yea, the final round and results. As you might have figured, this round was another victory for Morrissey. Which means, of course...
Morrissey votes: Michele, Birgit, Cherdo, mike & Kim
Michael Anthony Austin votes: Arlee

Winner's Circle
With a final score of 17-4
Congratulations to Morrissey

Were you able to guess which artist was my friends favourites? If you said it was Morrissey, you win an additional half point this round. See? I was being nice this time.
Now enjoy the winning song, hand selected by my friend Kimberly.
Top Comments

Shady Del Knight - I found Michael Anthony Austin's vocals irritating while those of Morrissey were easier on my ears. The Morrissey version was more melodic and I appreciated the echo FX and harmony.

Janet Miles - Count me in for Michael Anthony Austin, I felt it was more true to the original. The Morrissey one was going to put me to sleep.

diedre Knight - Yep, it's Morrissey for me! He managed to make the sounds (lyrics) of screaming sirens and screeching tires much less alarming.

Spacer Guy - I think Morrissey' has a chorus or something backing his vocals up which is why his musical flow sounds better than Austin.

holli - Morrissey - definitely Morrissey!!! I love him and always have. I love the 80's!!

G. B. Miller - I never got into Morrissey when I old enough to listen to his stuff to begin with (weird UK new wave/emo never appealed to me) and the other gentleman I've never heard of. Having said that, anyone who can turn a song into a very good acoustic version always gets the nod in my book, so by default, the gentleman opposing Morrissey the militant vegan gets my vote.

Stephanie Faris - I'm going to go with Michael Anthony Austin. His voice just draws you in and the song is more upbeat, even though I've never heard of him before. I always go with the more upbeat version of a song!

Kim Trucksess - Morrissey's version of most cover songs aren't as good as his original songs, so I was ready to be unbiased despite being a fan. But alas, I'm voting for the Moz. The other version by Michael Anthony Austin wasn't too bad, actually, because I didn't mind the high vocals. (Morrissey's vocals can be just as high and even include some yodeling on occasion...so that didn't bother me too much.

Please note: My next battle will held December 15th.
Once again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and placed a vote.
See you next battle.
Who will you vote for?
What song will I choose?
Which artists will battle it out?
Stay tuned.
I've never really given the artist much thought. But, I am hosting musical battles, so how can I not use the artist my friend enjoys more than all others? Well, the time for that battle has finally arrived.

Without getting too much into our conversation on the matter, she was somewhat apprehensive I use her favourite artist in an upcoming battle. In part, it may have been in jest. But it's just as likely she has a fear her artist will not rise victoriously.

Should I respect her suggestion I don't use her favourite artist? Nahhhh! Despite her hesitation, I am going along with this battle. Because, hey, what are friends for?

Kim, this one is for you. And don't forget to place your vote! Everyone else? You know what to do.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
The two musical contenders for this Battle of the Bands are below.
Please listen to both and tell me who you like best.

Michael Anthony Austin

Morrissey

Those are the two contenders. Ignoring the actual videos, who do you think performs the song best? I collected the two bands to battle it out, now it's your job to vote on your favourite. Please list your preferred song choice in the comments. Additionally, let me know why you feel the way you do. Voting ends on the 22nd when I'll cast my vote (if needed) and announce the winner in a separate posting.

Additional Questions:
Have you ever done something to annoy one of your friends? In a joking sort of way?
Has a friend ever suggested a musical artist to you, that you came to enjoy?
What was your favourite bread spread as a child?

Please note:
My first BOTB in December will be on the 15th. I will be skipping the first battle of the month so I can concentrate on more writing.
That's right, my R.A.N.T. feature is coming back. I've gotten so engrossed in musical posts lately, I've let my other love (ranting) fall by the way-side. Well, it's finally back.

And what better way to get into the swing of things, than with my annual Random Rants feature. Yes, every 13 month I head over to Twitter and give the job of ranting to you. (Can you believe this is the fourth year)? It's fun listening to other people rant for a change and I don't have to do the hard work of preparing a rant. Truth be told, it's a lot more work than coming up with my own. And, of course, I try to come up with some humorous and/or witty responses.

Note: I didn't say I'm successful (at writing humorous and witty), I said I try.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

(Random) Random Rants
@stinestinks - I like to rant. I was on Big Brother 16 or something.
You like to rant too? I knew there was a reason I liked you season 16.

@chakri_iiith - Life, is sometimes like the game Jenga, you make one wrong move and it all comes crashing down.
I always thought life was more like the Game of Life from Milton Bradley.

@hello_andi - when I feel like waiting 2 hours, have none of my questions answered, and leave with a still-glitching phone, I visit a #sprint store
Now I know where to go when I feel like that next time.

@rahimaxarsenal - I don't understand people who plagiarise jokes and pass them off as their own. I may be unfunny but at least I'm original.
I agree, it's as ridiculous as a box of Grape Nuts. I looked inside a box once, no grapes, no nuts. What's the deal with that?

@TARDISArchives - I can't watch a scene of Doctor Who with Donna Noble in it without the urge to rant about how AMAZING SHE IS
(rant) I do not think that word means what you think it means.
(But I agree, Donna is amazing!)

Grammar Department
@MarkMolloy - I really dislike writing "that that" in a sentence - how is this allowed in the English language?
It's not that that is allowed, it's that some people don't care how awkward it sounds. Trust me, there are worse things afflicting the English language...

@summertimedrive - Here's the think like you know what you're doing dude like you're not dumb you
...for example this sentence. I think my IQ just dropped 10 points.

@deanashraf - So I can be trusted to pay for all items I pick up in a shop, but I have to ask for a 5p bag? I KNOW THEY'RE ARE 5P IT'S BEEN A YEAR
And then... "They are are". Almost as bad as Michael Scott's "ASAP as possible."

Time is Money Department
@davidmarsh - Do you have time critical information to pass on? Just send an email and then sit around for hours waiting without saying a word.
Sorry about that. I guess an email was not the best way to let everyone know the building was on fire.

@AldWells - If you wanted something urgently don't give it to me two days ago knowing it takes two days to setup.
The building is on fire. Is it too late to ask you to install the smoke alarms today?

@HYost_Photo - Pricing goes a lot father than just for the photos. You're paying for my time, travel & editing. Good photography isn't cheap.
Speaking of editing (perhaps this should be in the grammar department), what does your father have to do with your photography?

Coffee Department
@lpatrao - Coffee with a huge dose of some rudeness from someone this morning. So unnecessary.
I guess your barista didn't have her cup of coffee that morning?

@sniperkc - " DO YOU NEED A CUP HOLDER " nah Ima walk all 5 of these drinks in the house with my hands
If you can balance all five on top of each other, I'd pay $10.00 to see that. Could you please?

@natshane - Popcorn, headphones, coffee and a good book. Then you realise, you have work tomorrow.
Gee thanks a lot! Here I was enjoying my rants article and you had to remind me I have work tomorrow.

@milda_cup - @FDNCoffee your WiFi is a joke! Came in to do some work and couldn't connect! Also music in clubs is quieter than here! Not OK!!!
If their WIFI is a joke, I wonder if I could use it to help me write better jokes. No, I agree, probably not. Nothing can help improve my lame jokes.

@Skegee_Man - The worse ones are the parents who have on the new shoes, fancy clothes, fancy car, but complain about $3. $50 worth of starbucks tho.
According to the film Back to the Future, Starbucks is supposed to cost $50 a cup. I can't imagine that. I still complain about $3 Starbucks.

Parking Department
@Kendal_22 - I'm glad I paid $140.00 to park on campus and it takes me 30 minutes to find a spot
For my humorous comment on parking, click HERE for a short poem I wrote last year. You must read and see if you agree.

@iMello12 - Why do we have to pay parking at the hospital or no parking at the emergency? "Okie, I'm almost dying but first lemme pay my parking"
How am I supposed to make jokes if you already include one on your rant?

@alternajock33 - For the people that dont have the street numbers for their house posted for people to find you, you are a horrible person
You should see me looking for house numbers at night. I have to use a pair of binoculars. And yes, I have been reported to the police a number of times.

Driving Department
@drdrehole - Yield does not mean come to a complete stop when you're in a merging lane that's a half mile long and the speed limit is 45.
It's either that, or people ignore the yield sign altogether. "What yield sign? I don't see no sign." Where's Bill Engvall when you need him?

@Brady_01 - Beet truck drivers can drive a man to the brink of insanity.
When I was married, my ex-wife drove me to drink all the time. Then when I was done, she came and picked me up.

@Al_Apun - Tho there's a lot of roundabouts here but people still fails to use common sense. They'd stop even tho d incoming car is miles away.
Were they looking for a yield sign?

@AmandaKingcup66 - when did it become a choice whether to stop for a red light??!
I must have missed the notification too. I guess peoples lives don't matter much to some people. And how much time are they really saving? 30 seconds? Where are they going they need an extra 30 seconds?

Restaurant Department
@hwiley10 - Rant for the night: DO NOT COME INTO A RESTAURANT IF YOURE NOT GOING TO TIP
And certainly don't order food if you are not going to tip. Honestly, don't you wish you knew in advance who is not going to tip?

@emmypickle18 - PSA: Please don't tip your waitress/waiter in change, you are not helping them out, and it never leaves their apron or change pouch!
My friend and I shared a hotel once for a convention we were at. Every morning he kept leaving a few dollars and some change for a tip. At night the bills would be gone but the change remained. I kept trying to explain to him why, but he never got it. Finally, on the last day, he left five dollars in quarters. After he left, I picked up the quarters and left a five dollar bill instead. (On top of the tip I was leaving, of course).

@fan_breakeven - ... because of course the point of takeaway is to order something 1-2 days after you actually want to eat it. What a joke
It wouldn't be such a bad thing if you were a traveller. Somehow, I'm guessing you are not.

Technology Department
@k8seren - As an IT person, I hate Adobe programs. I can't figure them out, the licensing is confusing, and they take 6 years to install.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

@FrogMichaels - Pet hate: when ppl try to make their #twitter profile interesting with varied, random facts. 'Tofu, yoga & knitting'. Stop it!
So what's your stand on random rants?

@LauraSeeber - Anyone else get annoyed by pop ups that block the web content? If you want to lose me as a potential customer, this is how.
I have no pop-ups on my blog. Is that enough to retain you as a reader?

@Larooooon - Replacing the pistol emoji with a water gun was such a great decision. I'm sure that's really gonna cut down on gun violence.
Water guns can be dangerous. If they are filled with acid, and you are the Joker.

@browncoatgrimm - only recently started referring to emoji's as "emoji's". they were emoticons back in my day,
Back in my day, we didn't even have emoticons, we had to smile with our face. You kids today are so spoiled.

@sheilajoymags - #rant rant rant rant rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Now that's how you rant on social media
So I've been doing it wrong all these years?Jeffrey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06973104877310669196noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4688586956638235216.post-51317970520399692582016-11-07T23:30:00.000-06:002016-11-07T23:30:22.409-06:00Battle of the Bands Results - It Takes Two

Welcome to the results for Battle of the Bands. It's a fun feature Jeffrey Scott runs on his blog. Unfortunately, Jeffrey Scott is unavailable to post the results for this current battle, so he has asked myself and two other friends if we would mind updating his blog page for him. First of all, let me introduce myself.

My name is Abigail Pettigrew. I come from the 44th century and unfortunately, I am slowly dying. But aren't we all, in our own way. Thanks to the Doctor, my last week has been filled with nothing but adventures. I even had a chance to meet Marilyn Monroe. Even in my time she is well know. OH, but I digress. It's time to get back to the battle results.

Or had you forgotten Jeffrey asked us all here to help out? Honestly, some people can be so conceited.

My name is Astrid Peth, and I came from the planet Sto. I was a cocktail waitress aboard the unfortunately named Titanic Space Liner. While saving the Earth from the spaceship, which was crashing on her maiden voyage, I died. I would have been forever gone if the Doctor had not ingeniously used a local T-Mat to reconstitute, albeit incorporeally, my body.

Nothing special or out of the ordinary with me, unlike Jeffrey's first two friends. Well, except for the fact I too, met the Dcotor. If I were to spend some time telling you all the things I have seen because of the Doctor, we would be here for a long, long time. Not bad for an Earth girl, don't you think?

I'm sorry, what was that? Why yes, I do bear a striking resemblance to Billie Piper. Which is probably why Jeffrey asked me to stop in and help him deliver the results for this Battle of the Bands. I've no idea why he asked the other two ladies. But then again, I have not been following along with the recent battles on this blog. So, let's get to it, shall we? I'm sure you have other things to do and the Doctor and I need to investigate a report of Slitheen on Pennsylvania Ave.

I'm honoured to bring to you the first of three rounds. I particularly enjoyed this round because it was the most exciting. Votes went back and forth. Jeffrey even contacted me personally to deliver his vote in the case of a tie. It wasn't needed, as you'll see, so I've thrown it into the mix. This means the first round resulted in a tie.
The breakdown went like this.
Tina & Rod - Michele, Arlee & Janet.
Billie - Alex, Robin and Jeffrey

As part of my duties, I was also asked to choose the comment I most appreciated. The comment I have selected was from Michele Truhlik.

"When I saw the contenders I thought this would be a "no contest" but wow, the choice is harder than I thought it would be. Billie Piper is good! That being said, I am voting for Rod and Tina. Their version is just more fun and lively. But Billie sure gives them a run for the money. She's good."

I appreciate Michele giving praise to both contestants. We can't all be winners, but we can be comforting to everyone. Win or lose.

Astrid here again. I've got the results for the second round. After the first round, I expected the back and forth game which Abby seems to have enjoyed so much. Turns out, I was wrong. Personally, I found the second round much more exciting than the second. Now, I'm not saying I like to see someone give up a fight, as it seemed Billie did, but it was still exciting to see how much Tina & Rod wanted this win. Was I expecting more from Billie? Yes. Was it exciting to see Tina & Rod take charge? Again, yes.
Here is how the vote fell (GAHH, why did I use that word).
Tina & Rod - Debbie, Mary, John, Spacer Guy (cute name, I like it) & Cathy.
Billie - Chrys

The comment I have selected was a simple one. It came from Chrys Fey. "I really liked Billie's version. I just didn't care for Tina and Rod's version".

It was nice to see Billie receive a valued comment, despite her second round lose. Perhaps the third round would be different? Take it away Rose. Errrr, what's wrong with your eyes?

I'm sorry, Rose isn't here at the moment. I am the Bad Wolf. I have vainly tried to manipulate all of time and space to insure Billie would win this round. But something has been preventing me. Perhaps the Doctor has found out what I was up to and persuaded someone to change their vote back. Nevertheless, despite my failure, I shall provide the third round results.

Rod & Tina received three votes while Billie received 2,483,653,057 votes. This means that Billie wins the Battle of the.....
What? No Doctor, I'm not using the power of the time vortex to manipulate the votes. What are you talking about? Oh very well. I'll behave. Billie received two votes. Well, she will after I repair the timeline back to its original state.

Here is the breakdown:
Tina & Rod - Stephen, Pat & Cherdo
Billie - mike, Birgit, Ace, Adric, Amy Pond, Barbara, Dodo, Jo Grant, Liz Shaw, Micki Smith, Sarah Jane Smith..... Okay, okay, just Stephen & Pat. Well, there is a reason they call me the Bad Wolf. I'm going dormant, you can talk to Rose again.

Sorry about that everyone. I hate when that happens. Before we conclude the results page, I wanted to share my choice for favourite comment. Pat Garcia shared this with us, "My own opinion is that no one can surpass the first recording by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell. They gave that song meaning and life."

I will have to agree with Pat. I had the privilege of seeing Marvin Gaye perform in the early 80's, a decade before I was even born. Not everyone can say that. And yes, I've seen the Beatles perform live too. Having a time traveller as a best friend has it's advantages. The final results are below.

Second Chance Circle
With a final score of 11-6
Congratulations to Tina & Rod
Bad wolf again - We were ordered by Jeffrey Scott to share a video from the winner. But no one tells the Bad Wolf what to do. I rather like Billie. She looks a lot like me. So enjoy the second chance you have to watch her perform for you.
Secret Theme Reveal:
For anyone still needing clarification on what the secret theme has been.
The past three battles, have featured musical artists who have also acted as the main companion of the Doctor on Jeffrey's favourite television show, Doctor Who.

Questions:
Where you able to guess before I revealed?
Have you ever watched Doctor Who?
Would you ever be interested to see more (and easier) themed battles?

First off, I apologize for being late again. I really do like contributing to the group here. The truth is, I tend to run out of time. Where has all my time gone lately? I'm continuing on my studies of a foreign language. A not so well known language from Myanmar (Burma). Additionally, I have finally decided it is time to lose weight. This means I've been walking a lot of 5K's after work. No, not every day, but currently 2 to 3 times a week. Then there is the house work and my regular job. So what am I trying to say? My writing, at times, gets pushed to the back burner. So then why do I continue to write?

Well, that brings me to the question of the month. Which is:
November Question – What is your favourite aspect of being a writer?

Even before I began writing, I was enamoured with writers. I was impressed with what they were able to produce. Contriving a story from something in their head only. In middle school, I had an English class where we were required to keep a weekly journal. Everyone complained, because we were given a situation, and expected to write about it. But to my surprise, it came easy to me. I was suddenly filling my weekly journal with stories. Eventually, I began to work on 'extra credit' writing because I enjoyed it so much.

But it wasn't so much that it came easy to me, I was having fun creating worlds that other people were reading about. The teacher (certainly corrected me a lot), but told me she loved the stories. When we had to pass around our journals for others to read, everyone else seemed to enjoy what I wrote also. I was doing something I was good at. I was doing something others enjoyed. But most important, I was doing something I had complete control over. I am essentially god of the worlds I created. No I don't have a power trip, but it is nice to know I can create whatever I want.

I have done a lot of fan-fiction. Mostly for Doctor Who, and mostly for other Sci.Fi.'s, but the point is. If there is a story I wish the show had produced, I simply decide to write it myself. Whether it's well received or not, is not my biggest thrill. It's that I am able to do it at all. I may not be god, but I do have complete control of the worlds I create.

Goals and such:
New Goal:
Work on being more punctual with my writing. I may not have actual deadlines, but I should work on keeping myself in line.

Old Goals:
Full year of posting:
I went AWOL for a couple of months back, and get deleted from the list for doing so. I aim to not let that happen again.
Writing Schedule:
Winter is the time of the year I seem to have more time for writing. I shall continue to work on a new writing schedule.

My Encouragement:
"Would I rather be feared or loved? Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me".
- Michael Scott

 Questions to Ponder:
How much do you love the creating process of writing?

Have any of your characters disobeyed your wishes when you tried to direct them one way? But the character simply goes in another direction?
For this instalment of Battle of the Bands, I have selected the song, 'It Takes Two' by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston. As you may have guessed, I have opted out of utilizing their version. What I have done, however, could be a risky move. I have pitted two well know artists who have teamed up to sing the song together versus a lesser known British Pop star.

Unlike my past two battles, I think this song is rather upbeat and not so brooding. Win or lose, I hope you will like these two singing companions, Tina & Rod, it's a great song. But I also hope you enjoy the Bad Wolf (I mean Lone Wolf) version from Billie.

As for the secret theme, I have to be honest, I've been very naughty. Mostly, because I think the theme will not truly be guessed. It's a difficult one for sure, and to be honest, needs some detective work. So on to my clue for this battle. The secret theme relates do something in common with all three battles. One thing in particular.
1.) Could it be the actual song? Are all the song selections anagrams of each other?
2.) The performing artists? Have they all performed in the same venue on a Wednesday night?
3.) The Writers of the songs? Do the writers all share the same Dentist or Doctor? Who can figure it out?

It can be done. Thanks for playing along.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
The two musical contenders for this Battle of the Bands are below.
Please listen to both and tell me who you like best.

Cover A - The British/American Duo:
Tina Turner & Rod Stewart

Cover B - English Pop Star:
Billie Piper

Those are the two contenders. Ignoring the actual videos, who do you think performs the song best? I collected the two bands to battle it out, now it's your job to vote on your favourite. Please list your preferred song choice in the comments. Additionally, let me know why you feel the way you do. Voting ends on the 8th when I'll cast my vote (if needed) and announce the winner in a separate posting.

Additional Questions:
This time - It's your turn to ask me a question (related to my secret theme, of course).
Everyone is entitled to ask one Yes or No based question.
Do not start your question with 'I was wondering', 'Can you tell me' or 'Do you know'.

Please note:
I will be unavailable to post the results for this battle. But never fear!!!
I have scheduled three good friends to stop by and present the results of this battle. They may even reveal the three battle long secret theme.
Additional note:
Starting in December, I will be changing my BOTB posts. In order to get more writing done, I will only be producing one battle a month, the second battle. The first of the month I will be devoting to my R.a.n.t. series and working on YA series.

If you enjoyed this Battle of the Bands feature, don't forget to visit the other participants in the Battle of the Band to see what sort of music they are featuring. You will certainly be entertained, so click on their links below.
This past weekend, I visited a place in Chicago I was unaware of. Imagine living "right next door" to Chicago and never having heard of the China Town district. I always thought it was a New York State exclusive. Now I'm finding many other states have similar communities. I suppose it makes sense, there is a large Asian population in the United States now. Following are a few more photos I took while in China Town. Hope you enjoy them.
No, it has nothing to do with who won. It has to do with voting turn-out and the fact we had an actual BATTLE! Seriously, more exciting than anything I could watch on TV. What do I mean? Read on....

Our first round could have gone either way. Points were literally awarded back and forth. Gwen, Kylie, Gwn, Kylie Gwen. This means Gwen wins the first round, but just barely. Kylie has NOT given up yet.
Gwen Votes - Debbie, Michele & Arlee
Kylie Votes - Mary & Alex

The second round votes came in pairs, with a final tie breaker to decide the round. Two votes for Kylie, two votes for Gwen and a final deciding vote for Kylie. This means Kylie wins the second round and at the end of ten total votes, they are tied.
Gwen Votes - Stephen & Janie
Kylie Votes - Janet, Robin & mike

Round three begins and end the same as round one. Votes go back and forth. Like the first round, Gwen took charge and scored one final vote to secure her the third round decision. Will this break Kylie's spirit? Or will she hold on, dig in, and show Gwen who's really in charge?
Gwen Votes - Cherdo, Shady Del Knight & Chrys Fey
Kylie Votes - Dixie & Borgot
Once again, Gwen takes the lead by one single vote.

The fourth and final round was a quick one. diedre came to support Gwen, giving her two votes over Kyle but then the next two votes came in from John & Spacer Guy for Kylie. You know what this means? Yes, WE HAVE A TIE!

HOLD THE PHONE!!!!! THE FIGHT IS NOT QUITE DONE YET.
WE HAVE A LAST MINUTE ENTRY.

That's right, suddenly at the zero hour, one final vote from Cathy came in for Kylie!!!
The tie is broken and we can declare a winner!

Winner's Circle
With a final score of 10-9
Congratulations to Kylie Minogue

PS - Have you figured out what the theme is I'm running? You would be so lucky to figure it out. It's CHALLENGING! While you ponder on it, here is a song which may have aired back in the day on TV. For a few hints see below.

Secret Theme: Notes
First Battle - Bring Me To Life
American - Chris Daughtry vs. Welsh Katherine Jenkins

Second Battle - Tears on my Pillow
American Gwen McCrae vs. Australian Kylie Minogue

Clue 1: The theme has nothing to do with song selections.
Clue 2: You will likely need all three battles to work on a guess.
Previous Guesses - Just because I have not declared a winner, does not mean someone may not have guessed correctly. But that doesn't mean someone HAS guessed correctly yet either.
Want additional clues? In your comments below, you may ask one Yes/No question.
I will answer it in my next battle.

How much of a detective are you?
Have you noticed a pattern?
Would I be evil and throw in a few red herrings?
Well, enough with the clues and such, I'm off to watch a bit of TV.

Top Comments
Debbie D. - For this battle I preferred Gwen McCrae's bluesy rendition. Kylie Minogue's voice makes me grimace.

Michele Truhlik - I'm going with Gwen McCrae on this one. I love her version. I didn't like Kylie's voice.

Janet Miles - Hey Jeffrey, I have to go with the Kylie version, McCrae's was just too slow for me.

Stephen T. McCarthy - I didn't really care for the way the version by GWEN started out (I rarely like spoken passages in a song) but, boy, it sure intensified as it went along. Her deep, Bluesy, impassioned interpretation of the song easily beat out the much more superficially Poppish version by Kylie, in my opinion.

Janie Junebug - I vote for Gwen McRae because of the emotion in her voice, although I don't like the spoken part at the beginning. Kylie seems too manufactured.

Cherdo - Basically, I like both of these versions for waaaay different reasons. Pop is not a bad word in my world, so I like Kylie - but Gen is superior when we battle 'em out!

Birgit - Oh I give my vote to Kylie because it is. Throwback to the 50's which I like and I like her voice. Gwen's talking and style just didn't do it for me at all. I'm not into that style

diedre Knight - I rather liked Kylie's Doo-wop style, I love that era. However, in terms of 'singing your heart out' Gwen gets the golden hanky!

John Holton - I prefer Kylie Minogue's version of this. Gwen McCrae's version was a little too hammy for my taste, while Kylie's was closer to the original, which I think is quintessential Little Anthony.

Please note: My next battle will held November 1st.

Once again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and placed a vote.
See you next battle.
Who will you vote for?
What song will I choose?
Which artists will battle it out?
Stay tuned.
For my last BOTB, I mentioned there was a secret theme for three battles. Well, one battle has been completed, and there were a few guesses. If you'll recall, the song selected was from Evanescence, 'Bring Me to Life'. The covers were from the American - Chris Daughtry and the Welsh operatic singer - Katherin Jenkins. Additionally, I placed a hint in the results page, though I won't repost that hint here. ;)

For this battle, I have turned to an oldie but a goldie song, 'Tears on my Pillow'. I subject which I can certainly relate to. To be honest, who can't relate to this song in one form or another? It certainly sucks when you have to cry yourself to sleep, doesn't it? But, it happens from time to time. And we must learn to go on. There are plenty of fish in the sea, and all that jazz.

So what is the clue I'm giving this week? Is it the song name or the original artist? My lips are sealed. Perhaps it's neither. Perhaps the clue is in one of the covers for this song. So who exactly will battle it out this time? I'm glad you asked.
Jeffrey Scott came back to the Battle of the Bands with a powerful song. And win or lose, each contestant seemed to do well with all voters. Though the vote wasn't the closest I've ever seen, kind comments for both were encouraging. (Okay, there were a few negatives, but that's the nature of the beast. This battle, featured American Chris Daughtry vs the UK's Katherine Jenkin's.

The first round of the battle went to Chris with an impressive 3-1 lead. But would this be enough of a lead to maintain.
Chris Votes - Shady, Janet & Alex
Katherine Votes - Arlee

The second round insured Chris was to keep his lead. Voting for Chris had surely come to life. But would the second round help out Katherine?
Chris Votes - Janie, Mary & mike

The third round did bring some new life to the game. This round was won by Katherine. Perhaps she could make a comeback as powerful as her beautiful voice. We shall see.
Katherine Votes - Birgit & GB Miller

Perhaps if more showed up to vote, the outcome would have been different. The fourth and final round was a draw. However, having won the first two rounds, this puts Chris as the ultimate winner of this Battle of the Bands.
Top Comments

Arlee Bird - In the case of your battle I really like Daughtry, but the outcome of the race for me is a squeaker. I'm going give the opera singer an edge though. I cast my vote for Katherine Jenkins.

Shady Del Knight - This is my third BOTB vote of the day and another very difficult decision. Both of your selections are superb, the kind of music you would find in my personal collection. Katherine Jenkins is drop dead gorgeous (your new dream girl replacing Diana Krall?)

Janet Miles - As for the battle, I was going to vote for Katherine but then I listened to Daughtry again and he seems to sing the song as if he really needs to be brought back. I don't get that feeling from Ms. Jenkins. Also interestingly, I don't like Evanescence!

Mary Burris - OH boy! Do I go for the rocker, or do I go for the one that stayed pretty true to the original? Well, it *IS* Rocktober this month, so I think I'm going to give my vote to Daughtry.

Stephen T. McCarthy - I have just one word about Daughtry's performance: annoying, annoying, annoying! (That was one word. I just repeated it three times, that's all.) Seriously, that was like "MEATLOAF singing" -- heavy on the histrionics; ten dollars worth of emotion in a ten cent song.

Birgit - No doubts for me....Katherine Jenkins all the way! In fact I have her album with this song on it. She has a tremendous voice and just brings it home for me especially this song.

Michele Truhlik - I really felt Daughtry's. His version is very powerful and emotional. I liked Katherine's until it got opera-y. I'm not keen on the opera sound.

G. B. Miller - I have the c.d. that contains the original (I'm very strange that way, will buy the entire c.d. for one song. 99% of the time it's a good thing), so I'm a bit biased in that aspect.

DiscConnected - I liked the Katherine Jenkins version ok, but since I am a fan of Daughtry's "Meat Loaf" singing, as McCarthy put it, he sort of had my vote locked before I hit "play."

Cathy Kennedy - Jeffrey, WOW, you put together two different styled artists going head to head on a Evanescence's biggest song! This is a good song for Chris and he pulled it off beautifully while keeping it close to the original. The real surprise for me came with Katherine Jenkins. I thought, "Ok, this isn't a song up her alley." and yet she did a fantastic job. Her vocals are far, far better Amy's and I loved Jenkins lighter rendition which didn't make me think about death.

diedre Knight - Katherine Jenkins is really good, but I'm hooked on Doughtry!

Once again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and placed a vote.
See you next battle.
What song will I choose?
Which artists will battle it out?
Please don't let the blog title fool you. I know it might do so because for the past few months, my blog has been fairly vacant. I've taken a self-imposed hiatus for various reasons. But I'm back. And I apologize for missing the past two IWSG posts. I was suffering depression and I simply could not bring myself to get online. Yes, that might seem odd, I was so depressed I couldn't even get online to drop a quick note. Well, I eventually did. So what do I mean by my blog heading?

Well, that brings me to the question of the month. Which is:

When do you know when you're story is ready?

This really is a challenging question for me because I continually rewrite and look for improvements in all my stories. Even when I'm done, I usually will go back and rewrite. I've been writing a series for so long, I have finally decided I have it where I want it. How did I decide this? I came to the conclusion that I will NEVER be happy 100% with my writing. I wonder if this is just me, or a typical writer experience. So I had to finally 'call it'. Finish a final edit and let it be. If I don't/didn't tell myself to finally stop, I'd still be working on it and I can't do that. I have to stop looking back, I have to move forward. And that's what I'm going to do. As I mentioned above, a lot of my depression stemmed from things in the past. But I have to stop looking to the past. No more. I need to move forward. In my writing and everything else. Continuing to rewrite and be depressed? I'm done!

In the next few months, I'm going to be looking for someone to exchange a YA manuscript with, to test read. I have a few sites others have suggested for me to check out. I shall be doing so.
Find Writing Schedule:
A few things before I continue with the Battle of the Bands.

1.) First, I'm sorry I have been away for awhile. I was dealing with a few things which were seriously depressing me. I believe I finally have thing under control (for the most part) so I shall pick up where I last left off. I was feeling so out of it, I couldn't bring myself to visit my online colleagues, much less post to my own blog. But I'm back. Please note, even still, I shall be adjusting my blogging schedule. More on that later.

B.) There is no hidden message to my song selection for the day. Though I had initially though on doing so with other songs floating through my head. But that is not to say, there isn't a reason why I have selected this battle. Which brings us to.....

III.) Over the course of my next three BOTB, I have a hidden theme. Will anyone be able to figure it out before the third battle results? There is the hook. And to be really mean, I'm not even going to give any clues this battle. Hello my old friend, the sound of silence is all you will know from me. Muaahaaaha. However, starting in the results of this battle, I shall begin to drop hints. (Or maybe I'm lying and I've already started dropping hints).

Back to the Battle: As you may have deduced already. The song for today is Bring Me to Life and I have found some dramatic covers of the song, almost as interesting as the original Evanescence version.

It's time I let everyone know what's been going on. As most of my regular readers are aware, I love to write. But I have also not been around. I feel awful for this because a few have have shown concern and inquired how I'm doing, yet I have failed to respond. I sincerely apologize and shall endeavour to correct this.

Please note: I'm not saying I don't want to reply, but I have failed in doing so, nonetheless. The failure was hinted in my last post. The 'technical difficulties' post. But the technical difficulties have mostly been in my head. I've been having a major bought of depression for the past few weeks (almost months). I've been dealing with a few things, (perhaps not major), but combined, they have taken a surprising toll on me. I have lost the motivation to do what I most naturally enjoy; writing, photography, language studies, spending time online, going out with friends, etc. etc. Quite a few days have involved me going to work, then heading home after and vegging out or going directly to bed.

But I've been starting to work on this. In fact, this weekend is the first I've actually tried to do something to correct this. I have started to de-clutter the closets in my apartment and I am currently in the middle of re-organizing the rooms. It can be so therapeutic, and I'm expecting some good results. Once again, I apologize for not getting back to those who have reached out to me. I shall be doing so today. My goal is to get back on track by the beginning of next month. I want to get back into my blog hops, if I'm still welcome. Thanks again to everyone for the concerns. Please bear with me, I shall be back.Jeffrey Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06973104877310669196noreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4688586956638235216.post-79708611607469985362016-08-03T16:23:00.001-05:002016-08-03T16:23:36.958-05:00Sorry for the Inconvenience

We once again interrupt your regularly scheduled Battle of the Bands feature so we may bring you this special presentation.

Gabe Kaplan, Telly Savalas, Robert Conrad, William Shatner, Tom Wopat, Joe Piscopo, John Davidson, Charlene Tilton, Tina Yothers, Bruce Willis, Lynda Carter & Lisa Whelchel. Just a few of the celebrity names you'll find in the Battle of the Network Stars. Which of their shows are your favourite? Who cares? We want to find out which network can out-perform the other network. And with the help of these celebrities we aim to find out.

If you remember from last time, one celebrity from each network offered a song for our entertainment and scrutiny. So which network won out in this battle? Let's check out the scores and see which network came out on top.

In our first heat, we see a real performance by all three networks. CBS (Lynda Carter) took the initial lead with NBC (Lisa Whelchel) right behind. ABC (Bruce Willis) was not to be left out and though starting behind the other two networks, they held their own.
CBS - Alex & eViL pOp TaRt
NBC - John Holton
ABC - Mary & Stephen

Was ABC toying with the other networks? It seems so, because in the second heat ABC took the lead away from CBS. NBC was having problems and likely stumbled on the track.
ABC - Michele, Cathy & mike
CBS - birgit

Perhaps ABC could have gone all the way from there. But it's likely Bruce was a bit too cocky. What suddenly seemed like he might actually leave everyone in the dust, Lynda showed she was not out of the competition just yet. The third heat proved this as she pushed on, endeavouring to overtake ABC. But could ABC do it?
CBS - Janie & Arlee
ABC - Shady & Debbie

The fourth round proved what great competitors all three individuals are. Despite tripping and falling, Lisa from NBC picked herself up, dusted herself off and began to run once again. Unfortunately, it was Lynda who faltered this time which allowed Bruce of team ABC to run away with the competition.
ABC - Stephanie, Crystal & diedre
NBC - Chrys

Winners - ABC
With a final score of 10-5-2
Congratulations to ABC
Top Comments
Alex J. Cavanaugh - I remember watching Battle of the Network Stars back in the day.
Lynda Carter can really sing. Would almost give it to my boy Bruce, but Lynda's voice was beautiful.

John Holton - Great idea for a BotB! Lynda Carter is just beautiful, and, as this cut proves, has a magnificent voice. Lisa Whelchel surprised me; I liked her song, kind of like what you'd hear on a "smooth jazz" station… Bruce Willis is a smartass, and the first time I heard of "Bruno," I just rolled my eyes. "Great, another Blues Brothers takeoff"... but the guy can bring it, and he's not a bad harp player.

Mary Burris - Oh Jeffrey..... such a great idea for a battle! I enjoyed listening to Lynda Carter, and was even a bit surprised at Lisa Welchel. I already knew that Bruce Willis could sing.

Stephen T. McCarthy - Cool idea for BOTB, JEFFY! If this were just about "vocal quality", I'd give Lynda my vote. But I'm taking EVERYTHING into consideration, including how much I like each song. And therefore, ABC (also known as "Bruce Willis") gets my vote. Back in the day, I even owned that Bruce Willis album. It was pretty good, actually. And, yeah, Bruce can really play that harp!

Michele Truhlik - Wow, was this ever a fun battle! Very creative Jeffrey. I love it! I didn't know that Lynda Carter and Lisa Whelchel could sing. I knew about Bruce Willis' band but never really paid attention to any of his music. I'm giving my vote to ABC/Bruce because that song was so much fun. The music was great and the harmonica fantastic!

Birgit - This was an excellent battle of the Network Stars and, yes, I watched it faithfully. I am surprising myself here but I am giving it to Lynda Carter. Her voice is actually the best of the 3. Lisa made my teeth hurt and Bruce...I don't know...I like the blues but I was waiting for him to say to some die hard quotes and the song didn't sound that great in his hands.

Janie Junebug - I vaguely remember when these "battles" were on, but I don't think I ever watched one. Lisa Whelchel's singing ranks even lower than her acting. Bruce Willis made strange noises, kind of like one hears in a zoo around the chimps. I guess I vote for Lynda, although her voice is thinner than she is or was.

Arlee Bird - Bruce Willis was annoying, the NBC contestant was kind of weak, while Lynda Carter had kind of a Karen Carpenter vibe. Give my vote to CBS.

Shady Del Knight - Now I know why they called her Wonder Woman. It's a wonder they let her anywhere near a recording studio.

Debbie D. - That was fun and I remember the show. ☺ Going with Bruce Willis by a mile. Good thing those ladies kept their day jobs.

Stephanie Faris - Bruce Willis, all the way!!! Lynda and Lisa...yikes. Who told them they could sing? They didn't have autotune back then, I guess!

Chrys Fey - 3 contenders and all from a different networks? Oh this is good! I didn't know Bruce Willis could sing. It's upbeat but too much for me. I agree with Arlee that he was annoying in his song. Lynda didn't sound too great once the song's beat picked up, so I'm giving my vote to Lisa.

diedre Knight - Ha! This was so clever :-) Who knew Wonder Woman could also sing? My vote goes to ABC (just this once) as I watched Moonlighting as a kid and Bruce just seemed to fit the mood of Jackpot.

Please note: My next battle will be August 1st.
Additional: In the winning video above, you may notice Lynda Carter playing for team ABC. That's because the first year Wonder Woman was on the air, it was on ABC. Beginning with the second season, it was on CBS.

Once again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and placed a vote.
Come back again August 1st for another exciting battle.
Who will you vote for?
What song will I choose?
Which artists will battle it out?
Stay tuned.
Good evening. I'm Howard Cosell.
Tonight we are continuing the battle between the network stars. I'm here with Gabe Kaplan, captain of team ABC.
Gabe. How have you enjoyed the battles,
so far?

Well Howard, we've been having some great weather and my team has been winning a lot of challenges. So I would have to say, I'm having a great time.

Now I understand Gabe, we are in for something special tonight. Would you care to explain, exactly what it is, we are about, to see.

Tonight we have decided to do something a little different. We have tried track and field, swimming, diving, even a tug-of-war. But we have never tried to see which network has the best voice.

Are we talking singing here? And do you truly believe this activity belongs in a sporting event?

Why not? Athletes have to train their bodies to compete in whatever event they perform. It's true of a singers too. I think we will see how this goes. If it works, it works. If it doesn't work, It was Telly Savalas' idea.

Well, I wish you the best of luck in this event. As do I all the networks.
Remember, The ultimate victory in competition is derived from the inner satisfaction of knowing that you have done your best and that you have gotten the most out of what you had to give.
And with that. Let's let this competition, begin.

All three networks have provided a singer. It will be up to you, the audience, to decide who has the best vocal skills, needed to win.
Team CBS - Lynda Carter will perform 'the Last Song'
For NBC - Lisa Welchel has 'All Because of You'
Finally, Team ABC - Bruce Willis will be singing 'Jackpot'.

Ask and ye shall receive. At least that's how I've felt this entire battle. I'll explain more in a bit, but first I should probably get to the results.

Right from the start, the battle was everything I had hoped it would be. I've had so many blow outs recently, I was hoping to have a closer match-up. So I was relieved when the first round resulted in Cecil leading by only one vote. So far so good.
Brotherhood of Man - Debbie, Pat
Cecil - Arlee, Gwynn & Birgit

All good things must come to an end. That's what I suddenly began thinking when the second round resulted in the majority for Cecil; the band already in the lead. Looks like my competitive battle was short lived unfortunately.
Brotherhood of Man - Stephen
Cecil - Shady, Mary, Michele & diedre

But wait! The third battle was a true battle once again. This time the Brotherhood won the round. Of course it was won by only one vote and Cecil had an impressive lead. Any more votes for Cecil after this round would surely give them the win.
Brotherhood - Janet, dolorah & Dixie
Cecil - Cathy & Guilie

Going into the fourth and final round, Cecil was in the lead by three votes. And then, the unexpected happened. Could it be? Is it true? Was there going to be an upset? Yes, it happened! The Brotherhood of Man suddenly found their audience and they came in droves to vote. At least four did.
Brotherhood of Man - Cherdo, Chrys, John and mike.

That's right. In a come back from behind win. The Brotherhood of Man beat out Cecil! I've been hoping for a REAL battle and it looks like I received it. As I said before. Ask, and ye shall receive.

Winners - Brotherhood of Man
With a final score of 10-9
Congratulations to Brotherhood of Man
Top Comments

Debbie D. - Not a favourite of mine, I'm sorry to say. The covers didn't improve on it much. I ruled Cecil out because falsetto voices are a turnoff, so my vote goes to Brotherhood of Man.
Arlee Bird - Both of these versions make for pleasant listening. Cecil took the song into a different level which added value to their version to my ears. Give my vote to Cecil--I was tripping out to that version.

Pat Garcia - My vote goes to the Brotherhood of man. I like it because it softer and I love the harmonies. Cecil was too rough, not gentle.

Gwynn Rogers - I much preferred Cecil as the group added more rhythm and variety. Somehow, the Brotherhood of Man's version seemed dead to me.

Birgit - I'm glad you had the 2nd video:) I give it to Cecil because it seemed more unique and less whispy than Brotherhood of man. I couldn't get into that 2nd one at all so Cecil gets my vote

Shady Del Knight - Re: "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman" - I hear ya, good buddy. I know the pain. I've been phoning, texting and tweeting Diana Krall up to 50 times a day for weeks - and NOTHING... as the Beatles sang - "No Reply!"

Michele Truhlik - This is such a great song. I figured I'd be voting for Brotherhood of Man because I really like their sound ... but Cecil did this song better so that's who's getting my vote. Great song choice Jeffrey. I haven't heard that song in ages...

diedre Knight - I've long been a fan of Dr, Hook and wondered if either contender could do the song justice (love this era, by the way), I think Cecil did a decent job and the song just sounds better with one guy singing with a little backup than the other with a chorus of voices you might hear in an elevator. I had to go back and listen to Dr. Hook, just because ;-)

Stephen T. McCarthy - How come no one ever writes a song about being in love with a Plain Jane woman? Don't women with average looks deserve love and songs, too?

Janet Miles - Hello Jeffrey Gotta give my vote to Brotherhood of Man. I thought Ceci was singing too fast. I liked watching the Dr. Hook video too, just for old time's sake.

dolorah - With some songs, there is just no improving on the original. What's good is good. I liked Cecil right off; it sounds like the Dr Hook; but then it took a sort of dance-extended version. This song lends itself well to the group effort, and even if Cecil did not extend it, I think I still would give my vote to Brotherhood. Good vibes, all the way through.

Dixie@dcrelief - Jeffrey, I might be the only non- Dr. Hook fan, even though I enjoyed 70s music!!

Chrys Fey - My vote does to Brotherhood of Man. I liked the addition of a woman's voice, and the other version was a bit too hippie-ish for me.

John Holton - I saw the name "Brotherhood of Man" and I said, "Brotherhood of Man? As in 'United We Stand'?" When I learned that it was, and heard the song, I decided they were the winners for me.

Please note: My next battle will be July 15th.
PS - Sorry everyone this is so late!

Once again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and placed a vote.
Come back again for a new battle June 1st
Who will you vote for?
What song will I choose?
Which artists will battle it out?
Stay tuned.
I'm pleased to announce I'll be co-hosting the IWSG this month along with: Yolanda Renee, Tyrean Martinson, Madeline Mora-Summonte , LK Hill & Rachna Chhabria.

* * * * * * * * * *

For a writer, every kind word about our writing, even a simple one, can be a big deal. When I write, am I looking for the phrase, "This is the best thing I have ever written!"? No, not really. Because that would be very unrealistic, and for a writer, we have to be realistic. Would I love it if someone said that to me? Of course, but I don't expect it.

Well, that brings me to the question of the month. Something new we are doing here in the IWSG. Asking a question and seeing how we all answer it. So on to this months question.

What's the best thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Outside of my blogging, I really have not received a comment about my writing in a long time. As some of you are aware, I've been trying to rewrite a series I started almost thirty years ago. In fact, I finished another chapter for episode three this weekend. I know I must have received a well word abut it, because I had several people who loved reading it. I guess the best thing someone has said about my writing is, "When is the next one finished"? Yes, thirty years ago I had a loyal readership. There were several people who read it, but two people were really into it and read each of my then finished episodes, seven in total. Several times before I was finished they would ask when the next one was finished. That made me feel more like a writer than I have ever felt. Just knowing someone wanted to continue reading something I had written was a big motivation. It gave me the courage and confidence to keep writing. Without people like Virginia and Joel, I'm not sure I would still be writing today.

Goals and such:

Old Goals:
Test readers:
Last month a few expressed an interest in being a test reader for me. I'm kind of new to this so I'm going to suggest those interested to let me know via email so I can send a copy of what I've writte.
My email is a gmail account, jeffreysg. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know.

Find Writing Schedule:
Still looking to time my non-negotial time. Summer is a bad time for me. So much going on. Can I still find the time?

 New Goal:
Make it through my IWSG duties to the best of my ability.

My Encouragement:
Only YOU can give your story that special touch. Oh sure, if you give a room full of monkeys a typewriter and enough time, they could re-produce the works of Dickens' - A Tale of Two Cities. But most likely it would read like, "It was the bast of times, it was the blurst of times."

 Questions to Ponder:
Outside of school, what was the first thing you wrote that others enjoyed?

Have you ever written something, put it away for a long period of time, then returned to rewrite it years later?

A Doctor sings this song.
Doctor Who?
No, Dr. Hook.

Sorry, I can never resist nerd humour.

As you may have noticed, for this Battle of the Bands, I have travelled back to the late 70s. In this battle, we will be discovering how difficult it can be, at times, to be in love with a beautiful woman. This song has it's own battle; jealousy and trust battle it out. Which will win out? I mean, which song will win out?

I'm kind of concerned about that previous question because it seems my last few battles have been very lopsided. If it were up to me, I wish every music battle was a true BATTLE, rather than one tank rolling over a machine gun turret. And that's how I've felt. But at the end of the day, it's all about fun. So even if this turns out to be another lop-sided battle, I'm still having fun and still loving reading the reactions and the reasoning's behind why you like one song over another. So let's get to it! If you are unfamiliar with the song, please follow the link below to listen to the original version. Then, well, you should know what to do by now.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS
The two musical contenders for this Battle of the Bands are below.
Please listen to both and tell me who you like best.

Have you ever had to battle for the love of another?
Are you a Dr. Hook fan?
Do you have a 70s band you love the most?
