...In Review

As some of you are aware (at least those who read my last rant), I'm in the process of uploading 30+ years of journal writing to one localized (private) place online. For the most part, the uploading part has reached its conclusion. Now comes the review process. Yes, I will now be reading each and every entry for the sole purpose of tagging. My next goal is to make sure each entry has at least one tag on it. So in a quick and easy stroke, I can find all entries where I talk about a certain subject. It's a slow process, but it's been kind of neat in a way as I have started the review process.

One thing of note. There is a chunk of time (mostly during my marriage) where I did no journal writing. As a sort of gap-filler, I have turned to my blog and have started to include blog posts. I've been blogging for about 10 years now, so there are move reviews in my future. Ironically, one of the features I attempted while blogging was reviews. At different points in my blogging life, I've attempted review articles. Topics such as weight loss products, photography, music and other miscellaneous things have taken centre stage. I've often wondered if I could go back to that. I think the only thing that has really held me back from that is wondering how qualified I actually am to judge things such as music and/or movies. Who would take me seriously? My photos reviews were mostly jokes. Are my jokes funny enough? Or just inane chatter? Would I, Could I, start a new review set of acticles? And what would I review? Not sure currently, I will have to 'review' my notes. Till then, I shall go back and review my past journal entries. At least that's something I should be an expert on. I did write them after all.

  1. Hi Jeffrey - good for you getting down to setting everything down into the digital world. Then the tagging ... that makes sense if you can categorise each article ... Good luck with it all. I'm not qualified to write reviews ... but a few things - films and books that I've enjoyed or have some relevance I include in my posts. So we'll enjoy them I'm sure ... take care and all the best with the project - Hilary

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. Look for upcoming reviews. Still thinking of a few things to review. But I do have a neat idea coming up soon.

  2. I review movies - you're just as qualified. It's your blog - review stuff if it makes you happy.

    1. And you review some good films too. I may have finally come up with a great idea for a monthly review. So stay tuned. (No, that wasn't a hint).

  3. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's isn't it? You can say you are not reviewing whatever it is as a professional, just as someone who wants to share an opinion. I say go for it.

    1. I've often had the 'George McFly' mentality What if no one likes what I write about? But then again, that has never stopped me before so I'm certain I shall commence.

  4. Review away and have fun with at it. My brother is on Facebook and he started a page called Life of Baron. He started walking an hour just to get out but became bored with the same walk so he decided to walk every street in our city and he talked about it thinking, like you, no one would care. He ended up on the radio twice! He got a lot more followers and so he started this Facebook page because now he is on to reviewing his Chicken wings and beer. he is going to every bar/restaurant where he can sit at a bar and order 2 beers and wings. He then critiques, not only the taste but the ambiance, cost, friendliness. It is a lot of fun to read and this will work for you too

    1. That is all so cool! I have dabbled in restaurant reviews and CD reviews and such. I've always wanted to go back to it. Still, unsure what exactly I will review. But I'm sure I will come up with something, perhaps I can even trade off genres. I had an idea of swapping out each month restaurant, CD, film, or something similar. I don't know. I guess I'll just get started with it,and see where it takes me. Thanks for the encouragement.
