Horsing Around

Meet Lando. He's a silly horse.

My friend Kate is the proud owner.

Lando begs for treats by sticking out his tongue.

This was my friend Doe Do's first time visiting a horse.

Lando checks me out while I take his photo.

Kate & Doe Do posing with Lando. He loves the attention.

I promised Kate I would come and take photos of her and Lando.

A girl and her horse. Riding off into the sunset.

Doe Do was eager to visit the horse so Kate invited her along.

Doe Do spends time with Lando while Kate does chores.

The visit is over. Kate and Doe Do say goodbye.

I, of course, had to take an artsy photo while I was there.

The moon rises as we leave. Good night Lando. See you next time.

Additional Questions:
What & how many pets do you own?
How did they get their names?
Is the name random or a namesake?

Lando's Namesake

I've been promising Kate for awhile I would come take photos of her and Lando. It was a bit cold out, but we decided a few snow pictures would be neat. In Summer, I'll be back to take a few more photos of her and Lando.

It was also cool to see my other friend get her wish of visiting Lando. Its' something not many people in the city get to do. Doe Do was overjoyed and Kate was happy to introduce the two.

(To Be Continued This Summer)

  1. Hi, Jeffrey!

Lando's a fine looking horse and I enjoyed seeing him posing with your lady friends. The artsy shot of the old shed, wagon wheel and tools is suitable for framing. I wish I could take a walk or horse ride across that snow covered landscape.

I had a Cocker Spaniel dog named Toto, named after the dog in The Wizard of Oz. I had a Yorkshire Terrier named Thomas's English Muffin.

    Have a great week, Jeffrey!

  2. Cool. Tomorrow I have to head to snow country (Idaho) for work. Don't mind driving in the snow as long as its not actually snowing. Still, its cold up there - I'm in northern CA but in the valley.

I have cats. Sometimes fish, I really miss my tank. I never name my fish, but I'm a cat lady! I pick names to fit the cat, either based on looks or personality. My latest one is Tribble - that little ball of fur just looked like trouble, just like his Star Trek namesakes, and he has lived up to the name. My kids call him Thirteen, just cuz he's all black. So now he's The 13th Tribble, just to keep peace in the family. He doesn't care, open a can of tuna and he'll come running no matter what we call him!

    1. That's an awesome name for a cat. I'll have to keep it in mind if I ever get a cat.

  3. Lando is adorable! I love the white on his face. And nice artsy shot. I can't resist taking those.

I have four cats...Cole because well, he's black and also after my favorite male character on Charmed (Cole Turner). Then there's Clover, a gray tabby named after a cat I used to have, Lucky. And the twins Milo and Otis. They're named after the movie with the dog and Cat. :)

  4. I wondered if that was where Lando got his name.
I really like the black and white shot. Good eye.

  5. Great pictures of Lando! I LOVE LOVE LOVE horses! In fact I was just visiting some horses last week. My friend Dawn has a horse and she boards him at this amazing stable. I took some visiting relatives out to see all the horses. They have about 60 of them on this property and many of them are show horses. We took bags of carrots and apples and fed them all. Horses are magnificent beings!

Great artsy shot too! Love B&W photography.

As for my pets: I have two greyhounds, Picasso & Luca. They are the loves of my life. Luca came with his name and I didn't change it. It suits him. Picasso came to me as Captain Flax (his race name). After having him for a few days (I was dogsitting him while he was in foster-care and fell in love so I just had to adopt him!), I decided to rename him. Back then he was all black and the only white on him, besides his chest, was this little white stripe down his nose. It looked as though someone had taken a paint brush and brush-stroked that line down his nose so I decided to call him Picasso. (You can see him and all my greyhounds in the header photo at my blog) You can barely see that white line now as its hidden in his graying muzzle. He's 8 years old now and getting really gray. I've had 6 greyhounds before Picasso and Luca that are sadly waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge. I miss them so...but they visit me often in my dreams and for that I'm grateful...

Great post and pics here. I bet you had a great time visiting Lando. He's a very pretty horse...

    1. Wow! 60 horses. I can't image. Taking care of them must be a full time job. Love the greyhound names, Picasso sounds awesome.
Yes, had a great time. Will have even more fun in Summer if I get to go back and do more photography.

    2. A full time job for sure! They have a big staff on the premises that care for all the horses. They have a good life there. I try to go there as often as I can. It just fills my heart to be surrounded by all those majestic animals. I'll look forward to seeing more of your pictures when you get back to hang with Lando...

  6. Hi Jeffrey - how wonderful ... I sure hope Doe Do gets to see more of Lando and perhaps can help others in the city understand the lure of nature. Kate certainly lives in a beautiful place ... and it must be great for you to be able to see her and her beloved horses more often ...

I don't have animals now .. but love seeing them around and just being out in the countryside. My sister in law has taken up with horses and a carriage for carriage riding and she helps out with Riding for the Disabled. They have a dog (sometimes two) and a cat ... but I can't have an animal here ... and I'm usually off somewhere ... cheers Hilary

    1. I've often wondered if I should get a cat. But, like you, I'm often away from home. It might be more of a hassle than anything else. Especially if I'm travelling in Europe. Then I certainly won't be around. As I get older, I'd like to travel more.

  7. Mostly I've been a dog owner. We had a few cats when I was a kid (until we figured out I was really allergic). I also had a couple of rabbits. When I got Shelby (my first dog as an "adult") I had to give away my rabbit. Turns out dogs and rabbits don't make friends. Who knew?

    1. My friend had a dog. One day he came home and the dog had the neighbours pet rabbit in it's teeth. My friend was afraid to confront the neighbour so he took the rabbit, cleaned it off as best as possible and went back to the neighbours yard and put the rabbit back in the cage. The next day his neighbour asked if he heard about his pet rabbit. No, my friend quickly replied. What happened? The neighbour then told him how the rabbit had died, but someone dug the rabbit up after they buried it, and put it back in his cage.

Hopefully the story above isn't what happened to you. But yea, it must be hard when you realize certain pets don't get along.

  8. I have cat who owns me that goes by the name of Holly. I not did name her, as she came with the name from the shelter. I usually become the defacto owned by cat in my house. I live with three dogs: Tina, Oreo and Lucky; a ferret called Bubbles; a psycho parrot called Kaylee; and a fish.

  9. I love the shot of Lando sticking out his tongue to beg for treats! I am unfamiliar enough with horses that I don't know if that is a common characteristic for a horse or something totally peculiar to Lando. Funny and cute! I,too, love the black and white shot of the barn. Very cool! Looks like you had a fun time! I have one pet, her name is Evee. She's a border collie. We picked her up at 10 months from her first owners, who decided they couldn't deal with her. She is very energetic and precocious. We just kept the name they had given her. We've had her for 6 years now. Love her dearly!

    1. I'm unfamiliar with horse and horse attitudes, but my friend assured me that sticking it's tongue out like that is not very common.
