Egg Harbor (Part One) - Harbor View Park

I decided I need a get-away this past weekend. Having never been to Egg Harbor (Wisconsin), but hearing a lot about it, I decided to visit. I figured it would be a great place to escape for a weekend to work on my writing and photography. I was correct! Upon arriving, I was awestruck by the beauty of this little community. I loved the sites so much, I took over 200 photos. In this brief selection of photos, I've included some amazing flora I discovered from Harbor View Park and the surrounding areas.

Don't forget to click on the photos to see them enlarged.

A beautiful day, looking towards the harbour.

This is the view coming up from the harbour. I felt very welcome.

A single rose. Where are her buddies?

Very near perfection. I can imagine paradise looking like this.

I keep telling myself I need to get a book to help identify flowers.

Lovely shade of pink. Wouldn't you agree?

I love purple flora.

Yellow with black. Love the contrast.

Then you must find a shrubbery!

Another great view of the park, and more purple.

I've probably added enough, but what's one more photo?

It was a great place to visit. One day I shall be back.

Next Week:  Egg Harbor (Part Two) - Shops

  1. 200 photos? I'm not sure that I've taken 200 photos in my entire life.

    Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration.

Nice flowers. This does look like a pastoral setting.

Arlee Bird tells me that you are planning to participate in BOTB this Monday the 15th. Although Arlee may have just been exaggerating again, so I wanted to confirm it with you.

QUESTIONS: Are you really planning to participate in this next BOTB? If so, I will add a link to your blog at the bottom of my own BOTB page on the 15th.
Are you planning to participate on a regular basis from now on? (i.e., on the 1st and 15th of each month, or most of them?) If so, I will also add a link to your blog in my permanent sidebar.

You can reply right here and I will check back for the answer. Thanks.

    Yak Later...

    2. Yes, actually. I am participating on a continual basis. I even alerted my readers in my most recent r.a.n.t. article to start expecting it on a regular basis. When I started this blog, 1/3 of the entries were musically based. I got away from that and am looking forward to getting back to some music posts.

Ironically, I was planning on posting a comment later today in your most recent BOTB and ask if there is anything I need to do or mention in the article I post. Should I follow a specific format? Supply links? Feel free to give me the entire spiel.

    3. Alright, JEFFREY, welcome aboard! I will add a link to your blog in my sidebar as well as at the bottom of each BOTB blog bit I post.

We do 2 Battles per month, the 1st and 15th. (If "life" happens and you miss one occasionally, no problem. No contract to sign and no salesman will visit your door.) We give everyone until the 7th and the 21st to get their votes in, then you'll add your own vote to the mix, tally 'em up and announce how you voted, who won the Battle and what the final vote count was.

Most people create a new post for the BOTB results; I think I'm the only BOTBer who announces his own vote and the winner in the comment section of the BOTB blog bit itself. I prefer to keep the whole thing, from beginning to end result, self-contained. You can do it either way, but more people will probably see your announced winner if you create a new post for it.

You take two versions of the same song and pit them against each other. Any kind of music is acceptable, and your contestants can be an original vs. a cover, or a cover vs. a cover. You can get as minimalist or as complex with it as you please. A couple BOTBers basically just post the song videos and say, "Here are your choices. Please vote in the comment section." Although most of us will provide a little background info about the song and/or the artists. Some will copy from and/or link to Wikipedia. If you want to, you can add some relevant personal info about how you relate to the song (either before or after you cast your own vote).

You can include artist photos and make it as elaborate or as simple as you like. I think everyone posts the BOTB "Dueling Guitars" logo at the top of their page, and you can copy that image from the sidebar of my blog or from the top of one of my BOTB blog bit pages.

Occasionally someone will use 3 versions of the same song, and this is OK if the song isn't too long, but we've gotten away from 3-Ways for the most part because there are now so many BOTB participants that, as it is, it can take 2 or 3 days (or more) to make it around to all the Battles and cast your votes. So, unless the song is short and there's a compelling reason to make it a 3-Way, I would stick with just 2 versions of the song that you think will give each other some good competition.

As for links, you can link to all the other participants or just link to my blog, as I always include a full list of links on my Battle page as well as in the sidebar. If you do wish to include all the links on your own page, that's fine and they can be copied from my post and added to yours. My Battle usually posts at about 3:00 AM Pacific Time.

Well, again, glad to have you join us and I hope you enjoy it. You'll find that just when you think you have a handle on it, the voting results will up and shock you. With BOTB, no matter how sure you are that you know how the voting's gonna go, one never really knows for sure, and that's part of the fun of it.

      See ya on the 15th!

    4. Cool, thanks for the info. Pretty much what I was expecting. I'm anxious and looking forward this on a regular basis. I hope everyone likes the battles I have come up with. I already have a list of a few I want to put out there.

  4. Egg Harbor looks lovely. Yesterday I went to Erna Nixon Park with my nephews and took 100 pictures. :)

I love the picture of the lone rose and yellow is my favorite colors for pansies (the yellow and black flower...in case you didn't know.)

    1. No, actually I didn't know. I love taking photos of flowers. I just need to get around to figuring out what they are all named.

  5. That's beautiful. It would be easy to find lots of places calling out to be photographed.
