The first real competition was mid-size cars - of which there were only two. So this heat didn't last very long. But still, lots of damage was done.
HEAT 1
To start the day off, a new event was scheduled. Lawn mowers came a calling!
The lawn mowers were plentiful and many.
Lots of great hits to start the event off with.
But as more and more of the competition dropped out...
...it came down to two. Which resulted in both continually smacking into each other till one finally died.
Heat 3
Finally, some demolition to write home about.
These cars really take a beating, some even catch on fire.
But no worries, Fire Fighters are standing by.
The demolition can once again continue.
One car finally stands alone. Or more accurately, half a car - or so it appears.
Another set to come.
Looks like a standard afternoon on the DC highways to me!
ReplyDeleteYes, pretty much the Chicago area as well.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Allison Ward and I am a features reporter at The Columbus Dispatch in Columbus, Ohio.
I am working on an article about a lawn mower derby event being held here next weekend and I would love to use one of the photos above. Obviously, we would give you credit.
Any way you could email me a few hi-res versions of these...I especially like the fourth one in this set of photos. I am kind of working on a tight deadline and would need them by tomorrow.
Let me know what you think. Feel free to email me at award@dispatch.com or call my direct line at 614-461-5203.
Thanks, Allison Ward
I'll get them right out.
