Time Travel Museum

November 5th, 1955 is the date time travel was invented. And yet scientists have recently discovered time travel has been with us for a long time. One piece of evidence can be found HERE.

These time travel devices come in many shapes and sizes. Each have their own special abilities. Would you like to learn more about the technology and science of Time Travel? Then good news!

The European Time Travel Institute (TETTI) is finishing construction on their Time Travel Museum. Scheduled to be open to the public fall of 2017.

Several scientists have already been scheduled to field Q&A session and offer brief demonstrations.
Best of all, the museum will be filled with displays of all Time Travel machines; both real and ones featured in films.

Examples of a few of the displays follow:

Name: Flying Delorean

History: Created by Doctor Brown to keep tabs on the progress of man.

Ease of Use: Average difficulty, knowledge of setting clocks and the ability to drive a car.

Special Features: Equipped with a hover-conversion and fuelled by garbage.

First Appearance: Back to the Future - Summer 1985

Quote: "The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?" - Doctor Brown

Name: Time Machine

History: To discover how mankind will evolve, George creates a time machine.

Ease of Use: High - Move lever forward to go forward in time and backward to go backwards.

Special Features: Can watch the passage of time as you travel.

First Appearance: The Time Machine, written by H.G. Wells 1895

Name: Time Bubble

History: Used in the distant future (31st century) by a Legion of Super Heroes to travel back and forth to the 21st century (and other eras).

Ease of Use: Average - Apparently can be used with just a little technical training.

Special Features: Travels in space as well as time.

First Appearance: Adventure Comics #247 - April 1958

Name: T.A.R.D.I.S.

History: Used by the renegade Time Lord known only as "The Doctor"

Ease of Use: Difficult - Even the Doctor has problems steering the time machine.

Special Features: Can travel in space as well as time. The inside is vastly bigger than the outside.

First Appearance: BBC Television - November 23, 1963

Quote: "It's bigger on the inside than on the outside." - Almost every companion of the Doctor.

Name: Omni

History: When history goes wrong, it's Phineas Boggs job to correct things.

Ease of Use: High - Simply set the location and time and press a button.

Special Features: Indicates when history is wrong, and when it has been corrected. Travels in location as well as time.

First Appearance: Voyagers TV series - 1982

Quote: "We travel through time, to help history along, give it a push where it's needed." - Phineas Bogg

Name: Phone Booth Time Machine

History: Used by Bill & Ted to acquire personages from history to help pass their history exam.

Ease of Use: Above Average. Can be used by a couple of nit-wits.

Special Features: Can be used for magic tricks. Also travels in location as well as time.

First Appearance: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Summer - 1989

Quote: "Gentlemen... we're history." - Rufus

Name: HMS Bounty

History: Klingon battle cruiser commandeered by James Kirk travelled back in time to rescue a pair of whales.

Ease of Use: Difficult. Ability to operate a starship is required as is the ability to speak or read Klingon.

Special Features: Designed as a Star Ship for interstellar travel.

Quote: You're going to try time travelling in this rustbucket?

Name: Uncle Rico's Time Machine

History: Purchased by Uncle Rico from the Internet

Ease of Use: Impossible. Has yet to function properly.

Special Features: Destroys your ability to have children.

First Appearance: Napoleon Dynamite - 2004

I Didn't Have Time

R.a.n.t. of week 10/28/12

I think I've spent enough time in the past few weeks ranting about things I directly have control over. This time, however, I've decided to go on about something I have less control of. As a parent, there comes a time when you have to assign duties or chores to your children. These chores can involve washing the dishes, sweeping the floor, putting the thyme away I accidentally left on the kitchen counter, I think you get the idea. What I hear time and time again when I check to see if the duties are done is....... You guessed it, "I didn't have time". (Okay, I'm done throwing in a 'time' reference for each sentence, well after this one). What annoys me the most about this statement is how inaccurate it really is. What our kids really mean is, "I mismanaged my time". The other day my oldest used this line to explain why his chore wasn't done. It was a reason he gave the second after he paused a youtube video he was watching. I inquired about the video and his response was he "just sat down".

It almost makes me wonder what the inspiration is for all the film and TV shows about time travel. No one is really interested in seeing the past or future, they just want to sit and watch TV all day and still have time to go to work. I half expect when Doctor Who goes off the air, the final episode will be him returning home just as his wife gets back from the grocery store asking if he found time to clean the leaves out of the gutter. To which the Doctor will reply he "didn't have time".

London - Day 5

In my desire to visit less touristy type of places, my 5th day was devoted to visiting places of more 'local' interest. First stop of the day was to tour the BBC in London.



Here's a view of the main courtyard. Hard to tell from this vantage point, but the entire BBC facility is designed as a question mark. And no, it wasn't built that way for Doctor Who.



But Doctor Who is the most notable show (especially for Americans) to come from the BBC. As we are about to head in for our tour, we were allowed quick photos with the Tardis.



Certain shows with celebrity guests have 'green rooms' where they wait before being called onto stage. This was a view of the green room at the London location.

Once the tour of the BBC was over, I spied a mall a block down. I'm a mall rat so I was anxious to check out the Westfield Mall. The mall is bigger than what it looks like here, this is just an open court area.

I'm not generally one for eating inside malls but this time I had to. In the US I'm used to seeing McDonalds, Arby's and other fast food restaurants, but this was fancier. I probably paid a bit extra, but it was still cheaper than take-away.



In a way I'm glad I didn't rent a car. For the short time I was in London it was so much cheaper and more convenient to take the Underground. Here is one of the few stations where the Underground platform was outside.



Okay local UK'ers. Explanation please.



On my way home I passed the 'Queen's Market'. Try as hard as I might, I never did run in to the Queen shopping. We must have kept missing each other. As the theme of my day went, this certainly didn't look like it was being over-run with tourists. Still it was interesting to check out.



A long hard day of trying NOT to be a typical tourist, I finally arrived back home. This is one of the few shots I took of the Falcon Hotel. Some would call it and the rooms tiny. I called it quaint and I'd stay here again.

London - Day 4

Everyone kept telling me as long as I was in London I HAD to watch the changing of the guards. I wasn't initially keen on this idea, hearing about the large crowds. So I gambled and went early, just to say I've been there.



I almost wondered if I was in the right spot, there didn't seem to be a very big crowd. Or perhaps I just arrived too early?



Sure enough I was about an hour early. The only draw-back was waiting, but on the positive side I was right on the gate, providing me opportunities for some great photographs.



Must be getting close to the time. More people have arrived.



The changing of the guards has begun. I was unprepared for everything to take place.



In order to oversee the crowd you needed to get an a 'high horse'.



Some pomp and circumstance, just to get started.



All this to change a few guards?



We now have a parade heading towards Buckingham Palace.



Taking a picture from the gate, look how many people are here now. Maybe it's good to arrive early.



Not sure if the people in back could take pictures this close. Look how serious they all are.



I had to take a closer look at the medals.



The guards have now been changed. I guess it was worth it to take a few pictures, but next time I won't feel the need.



It was noon so I took the Underground to get away from the crowds and do some street walking. Looking for areas of London less travelled on by tourists.



How funny I ran into a Police Box. I didn't realize they were still in use.



Such interesting colours on these houses. I guess someone likes pink.



Another street less travelled on. I was looking for areas to take pictures of, not seen by the typical tourist. Walking the neighbourhoods close by gave me that feel.
