Welcome to my A-Z list of 2016.
This year, I'll be recalling some of my favourite programs from television, via A-Z, of course.
How many of these do you remember?
Were these before your time?
This blog post has been written in front of a live studio audience.
1963-1965 / the Outer Limits featuring: Different cast each week
Yes, this was before my time. Yes, I have seen every episode. In my teens, I had an older friend who invited me over quite frequently for dinner and a movie. He would cook and I would rent a movie, usually based on his suggestion. We both liked Science Fiction, so this was a go-to series I would rent from Blockbuster. He was actually old enough to remember these when they were first broadcast.
1970-1975 / the Odd Couple featuring: Tony Randall & Jack Klugman
I caught this mostly in reruns, but I loved it because it defined the relationship I had with my brother whom I shared a bedroom with. I was always Felix, he was always Oscar. No matter how I tried to keep the bedroom clean, he would mess it up. One day I took duct-tape and drew a line in the middle of the room. The one side was mine, the other side was him. If something messy migrated to my side of the room, I just kicked it back to his side.
1986-1988 / Our House featuring: Wilford Brimley, Deidre Hall, Shannon Doherty & Chad Allen
There are very few television shows from the 80's that I'm not familiar with. This is one of them. Usually, at least I'm familiar with it. Somehow this one slipped right past.
This A-Z list has been brought to you today, by....
1950 - Ovaltine (Featuring Howdy Doody crew)
1960's - Old Spice
1976 - Orville Redenbacher
Creepy clowns are not a good selling tactic.
ReplyDeleteGlad I didn't have to share a room with my brother. I would've been Felix as well.
I agree about the clowns. Even Ronald McDonald gives me the creeps, especially the one from the other day. "Would you like a hamburger? Come done in the sewer. We all eat hamburgers in the sewer Georgie."
DeleteWow, that is one creepy way to start my day! Howdy Doody and Clarabell the clown? Chills up my spine!!!
ReplyDeleteGotta love the bachelor in the Old Spice commercial with his cigarette...
The only way I remember Our House is because at the time I was a Broadcast advertising media buyer and Our House was always on the list of avails (shows available for purchasing ad time in). I never watched it though.
Loved the Odd Couple!

No kidding about Clarabell and Howdy Doody. To be honest, I don't think I wanted the entire clip before pasting it to my blog. One of the few I did that too.
DeleteHi, Jeffrey!
ReplyDeleteI need to put Xs over most of these Os because I didn't watch Oprah or Our House and I didn't particularly care for The Outer Limits or The Odd Couple.
Our House starred Diedre Hall, the soap actress I watched for years in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives, and co-starred Shannen Doherty before she became famous as Brenda on 90210. I didn't think The Outer Limits was as good as The Twilight Zone. I didn't like The Odd Couple TV series as much as I liked the movie starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. I appreciated the old commercials. Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan was the very first Clarabell the Clown on The Howdy Doody Show which I watched regularly as a boy. Sex sells, and the vintage ads for after shaves and colognes exploited that fact.
Thanks, good buddy Jeffrey!
One of the reasons I used Our House was because it featured a young Shannon Doherty. I loved the Odd Couple and if I had to take my pick, I would choose Outer Limits over Twilight Zone any day. In fact I own the entire early series on DVD.
DeleteThanks for stopping around and saying hi.
I didn't watch any of these. As Shady says above, Deidre Hall had been on Days of our Lives (left to do this) and went back to Days. I suspect that this was only one, maybe two, seasons. It never really took off.
ReplyDeleteI was never really familiar with Our House. And you are right, as stated above, it was on for only two seasons.
DeleteAlthough I did watch Oprah a few times, mostly I found her to be preachy and annoying. :P The Odd Couple was one of my favourite sitcoms ever! The new version isn't nearly as good, but still funny in places. I'm not familiar with Our House. Fun commercials, as always. ☺ The popcorn one I do remember.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen the new version yet. I was thinking about trying to check it out one of these days.
DeleteI watched every episode of Outer Limits! Second to Twilight Zone;-) The Odd Couple was always fun. I remember Captain Kangaroo very well but did not realize he played a clown! I'd never heard of Our House before now. Still love the smell of Old Spice;-) Miss you around Pensive Pens...
ReplyDeleteI apologize for being away. I was on vacation, but I am back now. I believe I've already caught up to all the posts I missed. Yes, very interesting about Captain Kangaroo. He was almost going to feature on my C day. It can be rough deciding which I want to include and keep the video count down.
DeleteI don't remember ever seeing The Outer Limits. I was too young for it when it was on, and I never saw reruns. I watched The Odd Couple sometimes. I liked nice, neat Felix Unger. I think I saw one episode of Our House. It was about Shannen Doherty's character saying in a talk she gave at school that she wanted to be an astronaut. Seems to me she was told that women couldn't be astronauts. Oh, the joy of the women's movement, as represented by Shannen Doherty.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Wow! That seems a little ridiculous for the show to advertise that sort of sentiment. Especially considering Sally Ride had already gone to space. I was always drawn to the Felix character too.
DeleteLove the Outer Limits. Didn't watch Oprah, and always felt I was missing something, then I did and couldn't figure out the attraction. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Oprah was over sensationalized myself. Glad to know there is another lover of Outer Limits out there.
DeleteI remember the Outer Limits and Our House although I didn't watch all the shows.
ReplyDeleteI remember Deidre Hall was on Days of Our Lives, and didn't she leave the soap opera at one point to do Our House?
According to various sources, yes she did. How crazy was that?
DeleteI think there was actually an episode which Felix taped his half of the apt. It was so funny. I also watched the outer limits which scared me a bit. Never even heard of the other one
ReplyDeleteIf there is an episode where Felix tapes his floor, I have to see it. For all I know, I got the idea from him.
DeleteJeffrey, The Odd Couple was a good old show and I barely remember watching Our House. I actually forgot about it until now. I loved the Old Spice commercials, especially those of those with the sailor whistling. Orville makes the best popcorn. That's our preferred popcorn and we've tried just about everything on the market that's available to us, too. Good, good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI was going to use the one with the sailor, then thought this little beauty would be more interesting.
DeleteI don't think I've ever tried Orville. Perhaps it's time I give it a go.
I know all of these and I am sitting here laughing. The Outer Limits and The Odd Couple were my favorites. I still like to sit and see the late night reruns of The Odd Couple.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the A to Z Blog Challenge.

I will catch the Odd Couple once in a while in reruns. It wasn't my favourite, but it always made me laugh.
Deletei LOVED Our House - shannen doherty's second show (after little house on the prairie) and marlena from days of our lives. i'm upset i didn't use it for my 1980s O show. I wrote about One Day at a Time, which I loved but was better in the 1970s. great find!
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot about Our House until I did research for this list. So who did Shannen Doherty play on Little House? Clearly I forgot she was on, or never realized it was her.
