R.a.n.t. for week of 05/24/15
Every year I have the same desire. Or to be more precise, every month or so I have the same desire. The desire to take off and go somewhere. Having lived in the same city for over forty years, there is precious little for me to discover.
But it's not only discovering something new, it's seeing something new. Finding a new favourite place to visit. Meeting new people, doing something (anything) new. It's why I love to travel to foreign countries so much. The second you step into a new country, you are immediately immersed in new sights, sounds, smells and experiences. It can be quite exhilarating.
Also I don't always have to visit a country I've never been to. Returning to England or Ireland every few years is always a new experience. Having been to London on two separate occasions, I recall how each visit was entirely different. So again, the same feeling is returning. The feeling to fly away. Where will I go? When will I go? Time can only tell. But I hope it's soon. My lust for wandering is growing increasingly with each passing day.
Questions for discussion:
How often do you go no holiday?
How often would you travel if you could?
Where's the most interesting place you've been?
How often? Not enough?
ReplyDeleteI lived in Japan for several years. That was really interesting.
I like visiting new places and learning about the history and culture.
I've also been to London more than once and would gladly go again.
Japan really? One day I'd like to at least visit.
DeleteI've never gone on holiday. If I could, I'd travel every 6 months. The most interesting place I've been was St. Augustine for a field trip when I was in elementary school. That's pathetic!
ReplyDeleteNot even to another state? You don't have to leave the country to explore new areas. Sometimes just taking a stay-cation and driving to a city you've never been works. I did that once. Was so bored I just got in the car and started driving. Found myself a dinosaur museum I never knew existed. Drove through another interesting city. Found a British style restaurant in Chicago I'd never been too. It was a full day of exploration. I had a good time. Found a sci.fi. themed coffee shop, shopped in an amazing second hand CD shop. It was a good day and didn't cost much more than a tank of gas and dinner out.
DeleteI don't have wanderlust per se. But, when it's time for a vacation- one determined by my mental attitude- then it's off to the raes. Be it Ann Arbor, Long Beach (CA), Jones Beach (NY), Paris (come on!), Jerusalem (same comment), or any other destination- it depends upon what I need to reconstitute my being.
ReplyDeleteIronically, the only one of those places I've been to is Paris.
DeleteI'm lucky if I get a vacation once a year. We just bought a new house, but we'd already planned a vacation, so the one I get in a month will be the last one for a while!
ReplyDeleteI only seem to get a vacation once every two or three years. But at least when I do go, it's somewhere special.
