Catching Zzzz's

R.a.n.t. for week of 05/10/15
I've been doing a lot of volunteer work on the weekends lately. I say a lot, it's more like seven hours. For three and a half hours on Saturday morning and three and a half hours on Sunday morning I've been volunteering my time at the recent renovation project for security. The trick is, the hours I signed up for are 3:00am till 6:30am. This means, my entire sleeping schedule is out of whack.

I'm a person who normally doesn't sleep much, and not at all during the day. I have tried several times after my shift to get a few extra hours of shut-eye but it doesn't work. Why do I volunteer at such an odd time? Mostly because others won't do it and I don't mind the quiet time. (Like I don't get enough living alone). A few remedies I've tried is getting to bed earlier, or taking some form of sleep aid. The results are not the best and whatever I do, I still feel tired the rest of the weekend. I suppose I could let them find someone else for that time slot for a week or two, but nah. Not me. I like to help out where I can. And it's sort of challenging, and I love challenges. Besides, I think I'm finally starting to catch up on my....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Questions for discussion:
Are you a light sleeper?
Can you fall asleep at the drop of a hat?
What's the longest you've ever stayed up?

  2. At some point, you'll be so exhausted, you'll fall asleep.
I take a while to go to sleep, but then I sleep all night. My wife is out like that, but she'll often wake up several times.

    1. The best strategy was taking the sleep aid, I got to sleep but then I was tired the rest of the weekend.

  3. My sleep habits seem to depend on the day I had. The harder I work, the better I sleep. I've done a few middle of the night prayer vigils, but I don't think I could handle it every weekend. Kudos to you!

    1. Well, it's only for a few more weeks. After that, our new expansion will be complete. Then I can sleep and enjoy the additions. :)

  4. Paying off a community service debt? (kidding, of course!) I'm a real good sleeper. But I do it usually in 3 to 4 hour increments. For days on end. Then there are days when I just cant seem to wake up. Naps are my friend. I have no idea why I fought them so much when I was a child.

    1. Who knows why we do anything when we're kids?
I actually hate sleep. If I could get away with never sleeping, I think I'd be okay with that.
      Too much to do.

  5. Ack! I could never volunteer at those hours. I'd be a zombie if I tried. I'd paranoid about sleep aid so I would never take it.

Since I A to Z, I've been waking up earlier and going to bed earlier. I actually like it much better, but I'm still asleep at six o'clock in the morning!

    1. And that's why I volunteer those hourse so often, few will take it. As for the sleep aid, it's not really a prescription. Just an OTC that makes one drowsy. Because it makes me feel tired all day, I don't like to take it often, even though it works the best.

  6. Hi Jeffrey - I'm not now the world's best sleeper ... but am struggling with one new hip, and now the other has muscle pulls - so not being able to sleep on either side or my back .. I struggle through the night - but I've always been able to sleep happily - but actually understand the logic in doing that pre-dawn session ...

Good for you for helping out and volunteering and catch all those Zezzzzzssss .. cheers Hilary

  7. I am a light sleeper...I stress about sleep sometimes. Occasionally, I'll wake up around 3 a.m. and just can't get to sleep no matter what. The next night I sleep fine, but for some reason it always stresses me out when it happens!

    1. I'm a light sleeper too. Falling asleep is one of the hardest things for me to d sometimes. Only when I'm ver tired do I seem to fall asleep quickly.

  8. I have to read or play solitare/sudoku/mahjong to get myself to sleep most nights. I do sleep too lightly, as my husband's snores often make it impossible to get back to sleep once they wake me. I LOVE to sleep because I love to dream. I also like it because I carry too much stress around and really like to relax when I can... Thanks for dropping by my blog! 1. I have tried various things. Light classical music, sleep noise app, solitaire, etc.etc. Sometimes they seem to help, but not always.
