Well, the A to Z blogging has been completed for April 2016. Were you involved? Were you able to complete the challenge? The big joke going around, now that it is over, is we can all start getting more sleep. I don't know about anyone else, but I woke myself up two or three hours early every day to check out the blogs I was following. Every evening I tried (usually in vain) to catch up on my emails, and reply to comments left on my postings. Now that we have another year under our belt, I know I will bet getting some much needed sleep. After this week, I may even go blog-lite for the month of May.
But for now, it's time for the battle of the bands. And what better song to focus on this week than the Romantics, Talking In Your Sleep.
For reference only: Romantics - Talking In Your Sleep
BATTLE OF THE BANDS
The two musical contenders for this Battle of the Bands are below.
Please listen to both and tell me who you like best.
Dimension X / Tasos Fotiadis
Bucks Fizz
Those are the two contenders. Ignoring the actual videos, who do you think performs the song best? I collected the two bands to battle it out, now it's your job to vote on your favourite. Please list your preferred song choice in the comments. Additionally, let me know why you feel the way you do. Voting ends on the 15th when I'll cast my vote (if needed) and announce the winner in a separate posting.
Additional Questions:
Were you part of the A to Z month? How did you do?
Do you personally, or do you know anyone who talks in their sleep?
Are you a fan of the romantics? Or are you a romantic at heart?

Great song. I saw the Romantics in the student center ballroom at the college in Missoula, MT in about 1987 or so. They were opening for The Church which was the group that I was really there to see. But the Romantics did a fine concert.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these versions stay pretty true to the original, but I think Tasos Fasiados do more with it adding a very touch of their own.
My vote for Tasos F.

So when people went to the Church concert the kids could tell their parents, "See you later. I'm going to Church today." This would make the parents proud. LOL
DeleteThanks for the vote.
That's a way of looking at it. When I went, my wife and I had to find a babysitter for our kids so we could go to "Church" because they didn't have any childcare or children's church.

This kind of remind me of a local pub in town. It's called, "They Gym". Whenever my health nut wife asked where I was going after work, I would tell her "the gym", which she was fine with.
Delete* Disclaimer - The pub name is true, the story may not be. ;)
Hi, Jeffrey!
ReplyDeleteBoth versions offered in your battle today are very good. As it happens, I am currently going through an international club sounds phase. For that reason artist number one, Dimension X, appealed to me. I am also into club remixes and I listened to some of them on YouTube and found this one that I like even more than the standard Dimension X recording:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiZnZJFn1yE
I also enjoyed the version by artist #2, Bucks Fizz. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it other than the fact that it sounds too similar to the original. Therefore, I am voting for Dimension X because they gave the popular song a distinctive new treatment.
BONUS QUESTION:
Were you part of the A to Z month?
Since you asked, I will give you a truthful answer, good buddy. No, I was not a participant, nor do I ever intend to be. I don't feel like burning 26 posts in a single month just to prove that it can be done. That's not what blogging is about for me. However, I made a commitment to show up and leave a quality comment on the blogs of genuine friends who chose to participate in the challenge. I followed through on that commitment even though I was dead tired and my spouse screamed at me all month long and actually threatened to divorce me for hanging on the computer so much and being obsessed with blogging. I came through for my friends. I proved that I can keep up the rigorous pace. I have nothing left to prove. I am letting you and everybody else know that I will never do it again. Blogging is my hobby. I don't want it to become a full time job. If I can't keep a friend by visiting their blog once a week and asking them to visit mine once a week in return, then they weren't really a friend to begin with. That's how it is going to be from now on. I will blog responsibly and hope that others will be inspired to do the same.
Thanks, Jeffrey!
Yes, that was an interesting remix you offered. I'm so glad you stopped over to vote. As I have enjoyed your continued visits all month.
DeleteFor me, I love a good challenge. It is a bit of extra work, but in the end I think it pays off because I have a sense of accomplishment. And I just love to blog, so finding a topic that interests me, makes me enjoy it all the more. I have to be honest, I do enjoy. No matter how many times I complained about a lack of sleep. As I said above, your continued visits were a source of encouragement and joy for me. I do agree with you though, the A to Z shouldn't have the sole goal of finding new friends and keeping the ones you have. But it is a neat benefit that I end up meeting new bloggeers this way.
All that said, I completely understand where you are coming from. If something seems too much like work, then why do? It's the same exact reason why I cut down my blog posts from all three blogs I have, to focussing mainly on this one. It was becoming too much work and I was feeling burned out and not enjoying it. Now I'm enjoying it. Still, I may need to cut back a bit either this month or next month simply because I need to get back to actual writing of my series.
JEFFY ~
ReplyDeleteAs you know, this isn't normally my kind of music, but surprisingly I kind of liked the version by Tasos Fotiadis. I felt it went on a bit too long, and I cut it off just after the 3-minute mark. But it wasn't too bad - had some oomph to it, which I can't say for the second version.
Yeah, my Brother had a tendency to yak in his sleep once in awhile. But what he is much more known for is SLEEPWALKING. He's done some bizarre stuffs in his sleep. Like the time he took all his bedding - blankets and sheets - put them into the washing machine and then went back to bed, shivering in the cold. All while really asleep!
And though this would be hard for some people to believe, the truth of the matter is that I really am a romantic at heart.

Another vote for Tasos. Will this be a run-away?
DeleteSleep related diseases are curious to me. Even if talking in sleep isn't exactly that, it sure is interesting to hear about. I know it can be a real problem for people who really do walk in their sleep.
Jeffrey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on surviving the A-Z challenge. When i could get here, I certainly enjoyed your theme!
Additional Questions:
Were you part of the A to Z month? How did you do?
I was a minion (second year) with John Holton. Loved it.
Do you personally, or do you know anyone who talks in their sleep?
I've been told that I do, and it's usually about football, (go figure!).
Are you a fan of the romantics? Or are you a romantic at heart?
Oh yes, I'm definitely a romantic, though it often scares me (Ha!)
Nice battle. Great song choice. I too really enjoyed the version by, Dimension X / Tasos Fotiadis.
Have a fun time with your battle! See you on the 7th!

This time my results will be posted on time. I post them on the 8th, some post on the 7th.
DeleteI too am a romantic at heart, but I also love the Romantics music.
Another A to Z has come and gone... I didn't lose that much sleep over it, even if I had two themes.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these are close to the original by The Romantics, but I liked Tasos Fotiadis's better. I think it sounded better, and while it was faithful to the original there was enough originality to it to keep it interesting.
Glad you didn't lose much sleep. I know once I catch up, I'll have a few mornings where I will sleep in.
DeleteI enjoyed both versions but I liked Tasos much better. Maybe the sound was better but I also like the synpop sound.
ReplyDeleteSo we're still not sleeping yet. I woke up early to do BOTB, then took a break but am back at it. I have a few more left to visit and that's it! I'm calling it quits for the day.
RE: your questions: I have always liked the Romantics. And I am definitely a romantic at heart!
Michele at Angels Bark
I think today is the last time for me to get no sleep. I'm still a bit behind in my emails, but I'm close to catching up and I think I have finally made all the music battles and almost complete catching up in my comments. This post is the last one I need to catch up on.
DeleteThanks for the vote.
I have to give to Buck's Fizz because I liked their styling more. I couldn't watch it here so I had to go to YouTube and I did watch the video which was silly. The main singer was up on the roof, barefoot, and I noticed, no idea why, that he seems to have a really high arch and then when he moved his toes up they went really up...freakishly so in my book. That is not the reason I voted for them. I talk in my sleep big time. I apparently swear, scream, talk...the whole 9 yards much to my hubby's chagrin. I am checking out your A to Z...loved your theme and playing catch up
ReplyDeleteI wonder why you couldn't watch the video here. But I am glad you were able to make it to youtube and watch.
DeleteSomething about living in Canada...I believe
DeleteYou're the man, Jeffrey: hot off the A-to-Z and bam! Right back on the Battle of the Bands! Me, too, brother!
ReplyDeleteTasos and Buck Fizz both have distinct sounds, but I'm leaning towards BUCK FIZZ for my vote. BTW, I was unfamiliar with either group, so cool!
Nice job!
Isn't amazing how quickly we are able to bounce back from the A-Z? LOL
DeleteSame as you, I was unfamiliar with both groups. I may go and check them out now. I liked the sound of both. And really, isn't this one of the coolest things about the BOTB?
Absolutely!!
DeleteAnd I love to do the A-to-Z! Exact same reasons you stated in your comnents. I don't feel like it is so much of a chore as a challenge (hey, it's called a challenge).
My brother would sometimes mumble in his sleep. I never could understand anything he said, so I gave up trying to sort through it. Of course, it was loud enough that I could hear it from the hall. I'd go in to investigate, and he's in there mumbling away.
ReplyDeleteI also had a boyfriend who would talk in his sleep if he was really stressed out (that was a long time ago).
I suppose I am romantic at heart. The outer me is more skeptical. Maybe that's a good combination? I don't know.
I like the first one better: Tasos.
I think it's good to be a little sceptical. Yes, being a romantic is good (I am one too), but there is no reason to have a heart broken for no reason.
DeleteI'm voting for Tasos. The beat was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the sound more than the other version, which was too old school for me and even a bit dull.
ReplyDeleteSound reasoning and judgement. :)
DeleteLoved the sound of Dimension X. I recall the Romantics version, and I've always liked that one as well.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the A to Z each year. This was my second year participating, and I felt I had a decent theme this time. Given the circumstances of this month (You'll have to see my May 4 post for details) I think I had a very successful month.
I've known a few people that talked in their sleep. Funny story - one of my friends told me once that she woke up in the middle of the night as a newlywed to hear her husband on repeat saying, uhhuh, yeah. hmmm... Turns out he was so accustomed to responding to her chatter at night that he'd fall asleep that way without even really listening to what she was saying.

Battle of the Bands: Plant vs Plant
That's a funny story.
DeleteMary, I know it was a rough month for you. I don't know how I would have handled your situation. Even if I don't know it fully.
I certainly give you a lot of credit.
Cheers for staying with it. Also sending hugs because I know it was a rough month.
I think I liked the first version better. I talk in my sleep, and according to my sister-in-law, so does my brother. And my mom says my dad does too...so I guess it runs in the family!
ReplyDelete~Katie
TheCyborgMom
Who would have thought that? I know my dad talked in his sleep too.
DeleteThanks for your vote. I'll record it for the tally.
And here, I thought you would mention Crystal Gale - ha! I do like the Romantics, but WOW, I really enjoyed Dimension X!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think everyone talks in their sleep at one time or another. But the oddest thing I've ever heard is that once in awhile mi vida (my husband) breaks out in full-on laughter! Gads, I just want to wake him up and share the enjoyment but he never remembers what he was dreaming.
Great battle, Jeffrey!
No Crystal Gale today. Maybe another battle. :D
DeleteSometimes I wish there was such a device as a dream recorder. But then again, maybe that's a good thing there isn't.
The first video is creeping me out a little! It's hard to like anyone but The Romantics on that song, but I'll go with Bucks Fizz. Who are they anyway? They come up on SongPop and I always think they're Abba! They don't sound at all like Abba there, though.
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest, this was my first exposure to Bucks Fizz. I may have to find some more of their work.
DeleteJeffrey, Great song to battle! I didn't watch the videos. The first version I thought at first I didn't like so much until after it played nearly half way through and it grew on me. Not bad at all. The second cover, the lead singer's voice didn't do too much for me and when the whole group chimed it then they reminded me a bit of Cheap Trick making their song nothing special. I flipped back to contender #1 to listen more and decided Dimension X / Tasos Fotiadis gets my vote! Cool battle!
ReplyDeleteSounds like this may be the song of choice. The other band has a lot of catching up to do if they expect to win.
DeleteI too, try not to watch the videos.
Tasos Fotiadis gets my vote. I liked his vocals better.
ReplyDeleteGlad you appreciated the song.
DeleteWhile I didn't let the visual aspects of the videos influence my vote, I fear the sound quality of the first one being better than the second may have. I prefer the Tasos version. It sounded clearer, cleaner, and better executed.
ReplyDeleteKim (ReInVintaged)
Whatever works best for you. :)
DeleteI think I like Buck Fizz better, although they are having a hard time with the sound quality on this video. Yeah, I definitely like em better. Give Buck Fizz (what kind of name is that) my vote.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do A to Z Challenge this year. Did it a few years back and that was enough for me. I do normally enjoy reading the other posts, just not having to adhere to such a strict blogging schedule myself. Alas, this year, with moving and my Internet being down for almost two weeks, I didn't do much of that.
I must be a romantic, considering my circumstances, which I generally choose not to talk about. Ha, ham, ha!
I've know people who talk in their sleep. My first husband did that a lot. Unfortunately, he talked a lot about other women, Yeah, that was classic. Both of my kids did also and sometimes they were downright scary, like coming out of their rooms with their eyes open, although glazed over and telling me some crazy carp about seeing people in their rooms and the like. After figuring out they were still asleep, I would gently guide them back to bed. In the morning they had absolutely no memory of the 'sleep tales' not even as a dream. Probably a good thing.
Oh, that must have been horrible to hear all that sleep talking and walking. :(
DeleteOne of the tough things about this challenge is finding adequate sound quality. It also never helps when certain videos are not viewable in other areas. That's really annoying.
I find it difficult to ignore the videos, but I did my best. It was hard to understand Bucks Fizz, so I prefer Tasos Fasiados. They have a different touch. I know it can be difficult to find the videos you want.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Or when you want to find a video for a great match-up but the video doesn't exist. That really rubs me the wrong way.
DeleteI prefer the Tasos Fasiados version.
ReplyDeleteWere you part of the A to Z month? How did you do? It was my first year and I finished! :D In March, while my husband was consulting in Chile, I was able to get about 12 posts scheduled for April. I'm so happy I did the prescheduling!
Do you personally, or do you know anyone who talks in their sleep? I woke myself up last night talking in my sleep. I think I only said one word and I woke up. Sometimes I hear my husband talking in his sleep and I'll listen to whole conversations but they never make any sense. All four of my kids talk in their sleep. I remember once when I was at 6th grade camp I woke everyone up in my cabin when I screamed, "Yellow!" in my sleep. Lol
Are you a fan of the romantics? Or are you a romantic at heart? I like the Romantics.
Yes, I was part of the AtoZ. My theme was classic TV show theme songs and vintage commercials. I also had to pre-schedule most of my entries. This was my second year doing the challenge.
DeleteThose are some interesting talking in your sleep stories. If I talk in my sleep, I'm unaware of it. Though I do have vivid dreams just before I fall asleep which jolt me awake suddenly.
Thanks for the vote.
Okay, I could only see the first one because of disagreement between SME and GEMA here in Germany, so my vote goes to Nr. 1, Tasos.
ReplyDeletecongratulations on finishing the challenge and it was a pleasure reading your posts.
Shalom,
Patricia
I hate when videos don't show because of certain country restrictions.
DeleteIt was fun reading your posts as well.
We're probably all mumbling letters of the alphabet in our sleep. ☺
ReplyDeleteI remember that song. Catchy! Of the two, my vote goes to Tasos Fotiadis. His vocals appealed more.
I had a dream the letter S attacked me. The S was a snake.
DeleteI wonder if this is related somehow.
I like The Romantics and have their first album. Scary to know that their huge hit "What I Like About You" was made even more famous by Budweiser, and it took a lawsuit by them over their former manager to get Budweiser to stop playing the song (former manager sold it without their permission).
ReplyDeleteFather Nature's Corner
That's a great song. I love the bit of trivia you offer.
DeleteDid you happen to have a musical preference out of the two covers?
